You get the impression that Spence is fairly high up on Contes list, or at least plays part of a bigger picture regarding our window, because we would have simply moved on if it was going to be this protracted.

The deadline is there

just to add to this we have been working the fee down from 25 million plus silly future sell On clauses and stupid add ons that Gibson wants included it’s pretty laughable as his stock isn’t that high that’s why it’s taking ages the deadline is set as we try to over come these issues .
I posted a couple of weeks back that boro wanted 25m. Seemed steep to me back then but glad you've backed it up.

Hopefully we see a conclusion to this over the next 48 hours.

Busy week ?

This is a really fucking stupid question - and one I should know the answer to - where did all this BOMBA stuff come from? Did I miss a meme somehow?
A good lawyer does his research before he enters the forum ?

In reality they probably get some poor much lower paid underlings to do it for them but the point still stands. ?

Steve Gibson has gone full Jeremy Peace over a youngster he and the fans wanted to get rid of anyway?! You never go full Jeremy Peace. Football is absolutely bonkers.

I think it’s more likely the homegrown situation is holding us slightly hostage and we’re reluctant to move on from this when it potentially affects the other moves. Clearly identified rwb as the weakest overseas option compared to homegrown, so any strategy change will see a trade off, probsbly involving a lot more spent.

I get the feeling something potentially big is going on under the radar ?
I don’t. Often the simplest solution is the most likely.

We’re well advanced with Spence, but at a bit of an impasse, and neither side, even though they think they’ll get there, wants to show weakness. There’s a deadline of sorts with the Korean trip upcoming, and it’ll get get done shortly.

As for Lenglet, it’s nearly there but again, the last few bits are taking longer than hoped and maybe there are a few other situations we’ve looked at which have given us cause for delay. Looks like they won’t happen (ie Brehmer) so we’ll sort it in the next few days.

Otherwise, because arguably neither the other CB or the creative mid are fundamental to our success - ie if they ended up being squad players, we’d still be in a great position for the upcoming season - we can take our time and decide whether the right player at the right price comes available. If not, no worries.

I think this is far more likely than some ‘quiet period because something major is brewing’. Come off it.

People seem to be having a hard time getting their head around this because (1) we’ve raised cash so they seem to think we have to spend every penny possible (2) they’re like pigs in shit with new players and need a fix every day and (3) they’ve created a world where a adding (for example) Paqueta and Brehmer to the side makes us the best team ever and they’re already attached to the notion.

While getting those sorts of players would be great, honestly I think if we land Spence and Lenglet, that represents an unbelievable summer’s work. Maybe not 10 out of 10 but really strong. And anyone that thinks otherwise isn’t contextualising what we’ve done IMO

Good to hear. It's been like watching a dog swimming. Hardly been seeing any movement on the surface, but there's frantic movement below the surface.

A good lawyer admits when he doesn’t know something.
