Not really sure what's wrong with him not commiting to the club, if you think he'd say I want to stay at Spurs for the rest of my career then you're very naive especially when people will use those quotes against him should he leave.

I think saying he wants to be here next year wouldn't harm anyone, rather than giving it the old 'you never know' bollocks.

lol And what if he isn't here next season? Garanteed someone will bring up the quote and call him a snake, we've seen it before.

Fans get in a hiss fit over such needles things, just enjoy him whilst you still can.

Personally I've come to terms with players leaving, as long as it's not to a rival. Bale spent a sizeable chunk of his career with us, Modric was with us about as long as Lineker and Gazza. Unless a player is a Spurs fan like Kane you wouldn't really expect unlimited loyalty. Berbatov pissed me off because of the way he went about leaving, and who he went to, but it was still nice to see him back for the finale.

Lloris has been with us much longer than I expected him to be. We seem to have a lot of incredibly talented players that could double their wages but are happy to stay. Dele has no history of loving Spurs. He joined us because it was right for his career, and I think out of all of our players he's the most likely to move to one of the Spanish giants if they come calling. I wouldn't begrudge him for doing it either, but hopefully he'll realise he has plenty of time before doing that.

Incidentally, Dele always speaks fondly of MK Dons, and I've seen him get quite protective about them in interviews. He may be career driven, but he does seem very respectful and appreciative when it comes to his previous club. If and when he leaves us I think he'll be equally appreciative. I hope we show him the same respect (unless he does a Judas of course!).

Regarding his recent quote, personally I'd say the same if I was in his position. Why weaken your hand when angling for a better contract by saying you'll stay no matter what. Pochettino could leave and be replaced by some cock who hates Dele, so yes of course you never know what might happen.

I fully expect Dele to go, maybe as soon as the season we move in to the new stadium, or at least I hope we have that long of him playing here. It's the main reason I want Barkley even I don't like him that much. Mostly because he's still young and hoping Poch can do his work on him, and the fact that he'd be likely a very good value buy anyway, good gamble -- he can very well be the eventual replacement for Dele, if everything goes right.

Who's in a hissy fit here?

My point is that I want him to want to be here next season. You expect to hear the 'you never know' line from in demand players from mediocre West Ham type clubs, I personally find it disappointing to hear it from one of our star players when we're playing consecutive seasons in the Champions League.

I think it'd be a bit naive to think Dele will be with us for the long term, be great if he was though.
We've got him for the next 2 seasons i reckon, he's not peaking yet in terms of form or value, so it'd make absolutely no sense to even entertain selling him yet, his value is just rising by the game, long contract, seems very happy.
We really could do with a trophy to whet his appetite and you never know, he might stick around.

I'd expect him to sign another contract this summer, taking him up to 75, 80k. So we'll have him for a good while yet.

There's no way he's signing a contract for 70k. We'll need to offer minimum 120 but probably more like 150. Why would he accept 1/4th of what worse players are on in the PL?

You probably thought the same when he signed one for 50k last September.

It's what we've been doing with all the players in the last few seasons - incremental contract rises. Keep getting them to sign every summer and then the contracts don't run down.

In the quote he said the way football goes, you never know what will happen. This being in response to being asked about his future plans. I personally interpreted it to mean he might get injured or something and so you can't think too much about the future. This is true of course, as a football player can have a career ending injury at any time.

Only Sky can twist a nothing story into something:

Dele Alli had admitted that he does not know here his future lies despite being on a long-term contract at Tottenham.
Alli has been outstanding this season as Mauricio Pochettino’s men secured second place in the Premier League after winning the White Hart Lane finale against Manchester United on Sunday.
The 21-year-old, who was named PFA Young Player of the Year for the second successive season, is contracted at Tottenham until 2022 but that hasn’t stopped La Liga giants Real Madrid being strongly linked with a move for the former MK Dons star.
Alli has admitted in the past that he is happy in north London but it is only natural that he has ambitions to play abroad and at one of the biggest clubs in the world.
He told Sky Sports: “I think it’s important for me not to get too carried away by what will happen in the future. The way football is, anything can happen at any time.
“I will enjoy my time here now, who knows what will happen in the future.”

suppose they wont be happy till we sell Rose, Walker, Toby, Alli, Kane, Eriksen, Dier and push Poch to Barca. Then can finally rest midtable where they want us.

God I'd love for pool to miss out on the top4 and united to lose in the final...fuckers
Trouble is that would leave Arsenal in top 4 and Europe and I so want the Arse to miss out with us in it.

I think Alli is probably grounded enough to know that he's far from the the finished article, and that Poch has brought him on a long way.

Also, outside a world-record fee, zero fucking chance that Levy would sell one our two talismans (Kane being the other) right now.

If he keeps developing at the rate he is, I'm sure he will move in a couple of years or so for a record (or near record) fee. But that's life.

Bingo.if you watch the interview in context he actually meant "anything can happen" - as in he could get injured, a new manager might come in that doesn't rate him, he could lose form etc.. he really wasn't alluding to wanting a future transfer.

I dunno why the fuck people feel the need to dissect his quotes so negatively. Has supporting Spurs this long really just turned you in to paranoid wrecks? Man up ffs. We're living in good times to be spurs supporters.

I thought his response to that question was fine. He's not going to say 'I'm definitely going to spend the rest of my career at Spurs', because that would be stupid. The line 'you never know what can happen in the future' is what players are told to say by their 'people' as it means you're not going back on your word if things suddenly change. I got the impression from the interview with J Redknapp that he is very happy here and will be here for a long time -- as long as we're moving forward and challenging for trophies. Inevitably, if we're not, he's going to look elsewhere.

I agree he is happy here because things have been great for him and us this season. However if RM make a serious offer of say 100 mil then I'm sure he would want to go and Levy would take the money. It's the problem we will have with all our players if we can't pay the big salaries and don't win any trophies. Next season has to be our season or it it could all fall apart.
