Fine by me.

Our squad remains incredibly bloated, especially when you consider the loanees.

Sanchez is one of those players who needs to move on, so if there’s an opportunity to do that now, we should take it.

Sure it leaves us slightly short at CB, but between VDV, Romero, Phillips, Davies and Royal… I think we can weather it til January, playing one game a week.

Playing Davies and Royal there isn’t optimal, but then frankly neither is playing Sanchez there.
He’s only under contract for another year anyhow and whilst our squad is bloated, Anges group of usable players really isn’t (Sanchez is part of that, like it or not). He’s our back up cb, the other options listed are a left back, a right back and a kid. Don’t think keeping him til at least January harms anyone.
Doubt it’s true though, if it is, it’ll be run by Ange anyway.

I’d assume this would make Davies our no 3 CB. Can’t imagine Dier comes back into the fold after being practically frozen out.

Reasons for: We only play 1 game a week so outside of int’l breaks, less chance of an injury. 10 months left on contract so a fee for him would be great.

Reasons against: We cant replace now outside of free agents. I guess an emergency signing of Tuanzebe would work as HG?

Leave it up to Ange. If he thinks he can work with it, then do it. Dier is still here for now. Royal & Davies could play CB. We have Phillips & Dorrington too. If we do this though, we have to work around the clock to get a CB in & available to play once the clock strikes midnight on 1/1.

Fuck it, Sergio Ramos is a free agent.

Bring him in til January.

Any opportunity to shift our deadwood must be taken.
1. He’s practically the first name on our bench and he’ll see significant minutes as injuries/suspensions disrupt our back line. Downgrading him to Dier or Davies is likely to cost us points.

2. He’s not really deadwood per se as he’ll be a free agent come summer and we won’t have to try to offload him. The only thing we miss out on is whatever pittance of a fee Gala would pay, which isn’t likely enough to make up for the aforementioned lost points.

The first game of the season showed how easy it is to lose a key defender from a nothing challenge. It would be bonkers to let Sanchez go now.

Nothing more would underline, and highlight, how Levy puts the independent financials above the needs of the team if he sells Sanchez in these circumstances.

It would be reprehensible of him.

Only way this is true is if Phillips is impressing in training as our only options are otherwise Dier and Davies. Since Dier has been practically frozen out I doubt he's even an option?

Think we'd need to be in a proper crisis before we try emerson as a CB in a back 4, but who knows?
Don't keep up too much with our youth but IIRC he hasn't really kicked on. From what I understand it's Dorrington & Phillips we believe in currently. I'd be happy to be corrected by someone with more knowledge though.

Paskotsi has had a tough couple of years with heart complications from Covid. Phillips and Dorrington are now probably ahead of him and Sayers.

Ashcroft at right back missed most of last season with injury but has come back strong.
seems to have health problems

TBH I would sell, bring Dier in the fold

Don't understand the Dier hate but we literally struggling to sell any of our players now we are acting like Sanchez is like undroppable

We have one game a week until January. Squad is too big and if Dier has to come in, so be it. I trust Ange to get Dier in to decent form and to be honest. Dier will be high up enough to have his fullbacks try to recover and Van Der Ven, who is quick as well
