Playing him just sets the tone for those kind of performances. Would give any team encouragement and a chance with his shanked clearances, awful passing, getting bullied and then fouling, can’t header the ball properly. No football intelligence. This sounds like an exaggeration but I’ve seen better non league centre backs.

I used to feel sympathy for Dave, but he was very poor defensively today.

I felt sorry for him having so much of the ball, that is not his strong point, but neither was being a defender or even a footballer tonight. I don’t think he could be that bad even if he deliberately tried to be!
