Sloppy for the own goal and unlucky for the penalty, but his composure on the ball (playing passes into midfielders at the right time) and headed clearances were excellent.

Also credit to him for keeping at it and playing well after (kind of) being at fault for the goals.

Disagree on nothing he could do for the penalty. He has done this numerous times in a Spurs shirt by diving in on a block in the box with his hands over his head. Honestly can think of 4-5 occasions he has done it in the last couple of years. It makes it real easy to give a penalty when your hands are up there. It needs to be coached out of him.
Mate I'd love to see some footage of you going full pelt to block a shot and keeping your arms exactly by your side, your arms do that for balance like when you're in the air. You're asking for people to train him to flop like a fish at the ball in the box instead

Go out in the garden and record yourself doing it 4 or 5 times and upload it for us, for a laugh

It's a natural body position. If you lunge out to block like that your arms either go up or out. It's harsh but he makes himself bigger in doing it so you can see why it might be given. It's another one of those where you don't care so long as the rule is applied the same to everyone else.

I don't think I've ever seen a player dive in for a block with their arms by their sides. Your hands go up naturally.
And there is not another CB in the league who has conceded more penalties this way than Romero in the last couple of years. Love Romero, but he can be a bit out of control with his body in those types of situations.

He literally had the same hand ball situation earlier in the season, I think it was Utd. It's exactly the same, that one rightfully wasn't given.

I think the first goal is a bit unlucky too. The chances of that deflecting into the goal are so small. It's just one of those that's favoured to a left footed player so his body shape is very unnatural.

Don’t think he can do much for either goal to be honest. He was unlucky with both. Personally think it was a definitely a penalty, but it was one of those ones where he’s not at fault but did gain an advantage. I’d have been annoyed if it wasn’t given to us were the situation reversed.

I don’t think they are the same, this time it blocked a goal being scored, he was in the six yard box and had a direct impact on what happened, albeit unintentionally. The United one was on the edge of the box and didn’t stop a goal.

There was a player behind Romero blocking the shot

Penalty was fair enough, we’d have been annoyed if an Arsenal player accidentally blocked a goalbound shot with his hand and one wasn’t given.

Why it needed 25 VAR replays is beyond me, though. It’s as if the referees don’t know the handball rules any more and were buying themselves time.

He is keeping his head and temperament in check. Something a lot of people questioned him over. Him and VDV what a partnership.

Penalty was unlucky, but I may also be screaming for it up the other end.. one of those.

In my personal opinion, I think that's a penalty (hand is up, it affects the play, shit happens), but from the POV of the actual rules and what the referees are said to take into consideration, how can they give it?

The ball ricochets off Maddison a minimal distance from Romero. Both are things that should stop penalty from being given in a situation like this.

Am I missing something?

Bissouma was standing right behind him, so it would've hit him if not Romero's hand.

Maybe, or it might have whistled passed his head. It’s hard to tell, but it’s clear Cuti stops the ball going towards goal. I don’t think we can have any complaints.

You have no idea if this is the case.

If we're looking at it for what it was he stopped a shot which was heading goal bound. Whether the pace would have taken it past Bissouma or not is something we'll never know.

If I was the manager I would encourage Romero to carry on trying to block things as he feels fit and let the chips fall where they may.

Because it will still end up being a net positive action overall.

Totally agree.
I'd take the odd penalty against Romero over Dier giving the opposition several yards to get a shot off any day of the week.

Own goal, handball and a yellow card and didn't do much wrong tbh.

Funny old game.
