The reason people are reacting is because they are all waiting on an official announcement on a new signing and the admin drops a tweet about the Olympics. The reaction would be the same if they'd tweeted about the skywalk or a youth signing... Or literally anything that isn't a tweet confirming the signing.

I didn't see any misogyny, and I was half expecting to.

It's not misogynistic, no, but it still takes away the shine of an immense achievement. I hate the people on social media who spend their time going "announce x, y and z" under every tweet a club makes.
