Sounds like last year was his real breakout season, but regardless I wonder why Juve agreed to such a low fee option to Atalanta? Paratici must've liked him initially to have signed him in the first place, so letting him go for 16 million Euros seems a snip, especially since they signed him for 26 million Euros just the season before.

Just seems highly odd to me. Any idea what happened during that second season on loan at Genoa that caused his value to drop?

His 2nd season was very good at Genoa when back on loan, just think Juve were in a shite situation financially and needed some future incomings on the book.

Juve must feel like they're being done over, even though it's completely above board. Imagine selling something for a pre-agreed price, knowing full well that the person you sold it to is going to turn right around and sell it on for 3x that price.

Yeah, just read some scouting stuff and sounds like he had a really good season. Can definitely see why the Juve fans are pissed off, although I guess at the time they also had Chiellini, Bonucci, De Ligt, Rugani and Demiral on the books, so something had to give if they needed cash and they were overflowing with CBs.

Exactly, I did post earlier that he demanded a move to his agent as he was not prepared to waste a year sitting on the bench, although he respected Juventus as a massive club he still needed to play regularly. Hence his loan to Atalanta.

Probably already been said in this thread countless times already but only Kante had more interceptions per game than Romero last season in Europe's top 5 leagues - what a stat!!

My only slight reservation about him is that at both Genoa and Atalanta he played in the middle of the back 3, a position that allows a CB to take more risks and be more aggressive (hence his incredible stats). He will have to adapt his game a bit if he's playing in a back 4 regularly although he seemed to do fine for Argentina so I'm not overly concerned (and also makes him incredibly useful if Nuno does decide to switch to a back 3). It's a far cry from the Doherty position change which made him an utterly pointless signing.
