Not a good game for him and probably best if he goes to the bench for a few games if we can afford to. Young player, big upside, learning a new system. He is certainly not able to take the game by the scruff at this point but give him good coaching and time, and we might be surprised. How many players have been prematurely written off by our "fans" who are driven by their rage filled "dope-amine" addiction? And yes, the spelling is intentional.

Not writing him off. Nowhere near.

But he's as soft as a feather when it comes to challenges and 50/50s. Needs to be braver on and off the ball.

Couple of times he had chances to make a pass or a shot, or put their defender on the back foot with a tackle and didn't.

No choice but to keep starting him for now. Kulusevski is now out for the next one so another game where he has to start. He's still developing so we need to show patience. For Burnley maybe go with Lo Celso central and Kulusevski right unless Johnson has a great game Sunday. I do think he'll be better when Madders is back though. Hopefully Soloman is back soon too so have better competition. We also need to be in position to bring fresh legs on and Johnson for the last 20 mins could be ideal.

Exactly. He's petrified of making mistakes. He is playing in the big leagues for the first ime.

I think it’s way premature to even consider selling. I actually thought he had a better game today than he did on Saturday vs Everton, but the final action let him down.

I’m not totally convinced by him but I’ll judge him more after a full season and hopefully playing alongside a few more first teamers in Bentancur and Maddison etc. He was better than Son and Kulu tonight

I wasn’t particularly advocating selling him this early in to his spurs career. More that it seems we probably overpaid and if Ange feels he isn’t the winger he needs for his systems whether other teams we see anything like that value him in.

What does he offer? With a fully fit squad he's on the bench.and get 15 minutes at best.

I'm not seeing it. I've tried and I'm normally fairly positive with players. I thought he was woeful tonight. Not for the first time.

When he went off and Kulu concentrated on the right. The front clicked more. With 10 mins to go.....

This was against a significantly weakened Brighton side with no recognised full back?

He wasn't alone today. But he stood out to me as one of the worst.

He’s quick and does have decent movement to be fair, but just wastes it most of the time. Oddly, for someone with raw pace, he also seems reluctant to take on his man.

He’s also poor off the ball as well, so doesn’t have that to fall back on.

And doesn't seem to like a physical challenge. I agree he's obviously rapid and gets into some good positions. But there's nothing else?

Maybe it's just a confidence issue.

Heres hoping.

When you splash out £48m you would expect a far better return than what we’re currently getting.

Over £100m for him and Richarlison.

Doesn’t help either when he’s the attacking signing you make after selling the clubs record goal scorer.

People need to be patient.

This guy has bags of talent, he's just tentative at the moment.

He'll have the moment where he gets that big shot of confidence.

He has a couple of assists and a goal since he arrived but have generally found him him a bit underwhelming when looking at his performance over the course of 90+ mins tbh. Would like to see him be much more positive on the ball and really attack the opposition and use his pace but feel that doesn't happen anywhere near enough.

Get the impression at the moment he is one who likes to have space in front of him to attack. When things are tight and space at a premium, it feels as though he lacks decisiveness and don't know if that's just due to confidence, a limitation in his ability/technique or maybe a combination of both.

Think for him to be successful, he'll need to develop his game and become a more well rounded player, which at 22 years old is understandable and more than possible.

Some of the comments on here could have been copied and pasted from about page five of the Son thread, well worth a read just to draw some comparisons.
BJ will be fine once he finds his feet, just need it to happen a bit sharpish at the moment!

Finding his feet gone from being the big fish to being the small fish and doubting himself a little its natural plus not fully fit

Did you see how many times Son was on the deck?

Haven't been convinced over a whole 90 minutes by him. Don't honestly see what he's got to offer other than raw pace. Which he rarely uses.
