Reckon we're looking hard for home grown players. Not many alternatives to guys like Johnson and Adarabioyo

All fair points but surely seeing a few sporadic posts from me isn’t as boring as every thread being turned into an anti-levy doom spiral - which has happened to the majority of threads on here?
Yeah, I do get that and there are certain members who insist on slagging Levy off for anything, which is indeed fucking tiresome.
But, I also feel that this deal is probably worthy of raising a little suspicion, for various obvious reasons.

It would be nice if we could all be able to sit back and enjoy the new feel about the club, along with the football that we're now playing but we've all been hurt too many times before. I think it's understandable that some are holding back a bit and still expecting Levy to manage to mess things up.
His historic shadow still looms large in the background.

The biggest issue for me is the amount of players we've still got to shift, with time rapidly running out.
I'm struggling to see how we can shift 6 or more players in as many days and really think we should have acted earlier, even if that meant being a bit ruthless.

Frankly none of us know who is driving the deal, might well be Levy, might be Paratici. Might be that Levy is driving the deal, Ange is happy. Might be that Levy is driving the deal and Ange has to accept what he's given and for the players sake has to put a positive spin on it and use what he's given, none of us know. Understandable to be concerned if deals are being done outside of a structure involving our scouting department but it's nothing more than an if, unless Ange wants to follow in Conte's footsteps and call it a club signing. So all that matters really is, are we going to sign him and is he good enough.

I agree on this.

My angle on a lot of these discussion points is that there is so much more nuance in club decision making than how it is framed on here.

On this occasion, the fact the club have been evidently been tracking Johnson since at least last summer(through Paratici) means there is more to it than just a ‘Levy buy’.

I guess we'd walk away and look at a different option. I don't think we're paying 50m on him.
Unless we do some kind of creative deal to help them with ffp. Say we pay 50m for him and do a loan to buy on one of ours the other way. Something where the payment for our player brings the total we pay for Johnson down in the long run.

Yeah and I agree on your angle, I just think your point would gain more traction if it didn't come across quite as combative. I say this because I think you'll have better chance of people seeing that they're looking at it too bluntly if they don't see it as person responding will always defend levy, it makes people ignore the point in my opinion.

I’m still of the opinion that going for Johnson when Williams has a 45 mil release clause is a very bad move. I sincerely hope he is one of the other two names on this list.
But I’m not aware of any links whatsoever between Williams and the Premier League, let alone us. It’s a little disingenuous to suggest that we should be buying a player that we apparently have no interest in.

It’s a depressing thought. Williams has a £42m release clause and Johnson will probably cost more than that.

Not sure about this guy. A little underwhelming and Ange himself said he wasn’t convinced about spending 50m on a player just for the sake of it. I hope he truly wants him.

There must be something that is putting teams off because as you say it’s a low release clause for a young, rapid player in a position where there aren’t many options
It’s not just us haven’t taken advantage of the release clause.
maybe a maturity concern?

In our system i think Brennan could work as the central striker.
He would offer us the same work rate as Richarlison, while offering more explosive pace/acceleration when making runs, stretching and moving teams out of shape even more.

Would be happy if we bought him in as he could play in two positions we are currently quite weak in.
While I've said many dislikeable things @DenverSpur I'm not sure this post is one of them... :cautious:
