Its a no brainer.

Bale can roast defenders inside and out, cut inside, pull defenders out of position and generally put defences on the back foot.. From Midfield he can have spells in a game where his attacking intensity is too much for a team to handle.

He has turned in many vital performance-match changing ones, from midfield.

He gets into more shooting positions from midfield, wins freekicks in good positions and wins corners.

We don't have many players in the team that can do this. Bale seems to have an intelligence about him in the sense that he knows what todo to make or score a goal.

I dont care about his defensive weaknesses, lets not even go there. Why with defoe out and Pav our only striker (who is not good enough) are we playing Bale, our best winger and potential match winner at left back

Its like we are blunt at the moment and Harry doesn't want to use the tools that we do have

Am I the only one who thinks playing Bale at left back was not the problem today?

I don't think there was a "problem" with Bale at left back but he was no where near as effective from that position as he has been early on in this season for us.

He has, probably, been our only attacking potent threat so far this season. That is worrying! So shoving him to left back negates the good stuff he does further up the pitch.

I like Bale at left back. More and more teams are seeing a nil nil draw against us as a good result, we need attacking fullbacks to help us break these teams down. Bale got to the byline plenty of times and would have scored but for a good save by Carson.

Bale played well at fullback today & I think Corluka's performance is more of a concern.

Bale is more unpredictable from midfield, he can do more and as the previous poster said we are negating his potentcy, full stop.

No, Good Buddy, on this we agree 100%

Massive sigh. SP tell him.
Strenght is failing.

1, Peter, it is not a 'no-brainer', otherwise so many intelligent people, and life-long footballing people, would all just agree with you.

2, from left-back, today, not only was he sound defensively, but he could also have scored two running on to the 'Keeper, and whipped plenty of crosses in, and the player who could his place in midfield scored...did youmiss this, or can you tell me with a straight face that this never happened:shrug:

No.

So, the problem wasn't a 'sudden' lack of creativity from the left because Bale played at LB (although Kranks was somewhat disappointing as Luca's replacement).

There were players who were disappointing today - Wilson, Corluka, Lennon - but none of them played poorly either as a direct or as an indirect result of Bale paying LB rather than LW.

He did, however, get marked into ineffectiveness while playing at LW against Wigan (or did you miss that, too:shrug:).

p.s. You may, like, actually want to produce a poll, when you start a thread called 'Poll...blah, blah, blah', but try and factor ito it that Mr Redknapp's opinion is the most important one and he has been consistent in stating his opinion that Bale's future is at LB:wink:

Bale at Left Back wasn't the problem today. The fact we kept using him as our only attacking outlet was.

Using Lennon on the right wing has been more of a problem this season.

Wigan was one game where no one turned up. On his day Bale is unplayable.

Bale did get into good positions today but be honest with yourself, do you really believe he has the same attacking threat from left back????

I always hate this "well the player in his place did this XYZ". Modders might have scored anyway and sure he may have scored but bale might have setup 2 other goals in what would possibly have been a completely different game. Infact Bales frequency of turning-in game influencing performances means it is likely playing in midfield would have born fruition.

Obviously there are other problems at the moment but Bale is best played further up the pitch - he is an automatic weapon being used like a pistol at left back.

No brainer was 'arry talk, but I hear your point there...

*edit one more thing,

What crystal ball does Harry have to know that Bale will be a left back? Players can change, pennies can drop, all sorts.. Redknapp does pre-judge situations sometimes.

Bale went to left back against Wigan.

The fact is, he shouldn't have to play from further back or even defend as much. He should be left to focus more on his attacking play, because he is soooo fucking good there.

Yes he can play left back, and at home to teams who camp in their won half, I would go for him at left back. Simply because we'll be on the front foot most of the game so he'll pretty much be a winger anyway.

He played well today, but also had to defend, especially in the 2nd half when West Brom were on top. We would've been better off with Bale further forward so we could counter attack.

Play Bale 20-30 yards further forward and you're obviously going to get more from him.

He played left back second half and was Absent WithOut Leave for three Wigan chances in the space of 4 minutes, the last of which ended in a goal. I'd say really ineffective at left back in that instance - would you agree?
