Right now I'd rather have results than great football - I want us to compete

What I want right now its to see us creating multiple chances every match - how can you get results or compete when the bulk of your chances every match are coming from long range low percentage efforts at goal?

Lamela and Eriksen are hopefully the guys, even holtby, to add that creative spark to what already is shaping up to be a solid Spurs outfit

We might not get the swash buckling style of the Redknapp era again but I do believe with increased creativity will come better football - and we need increased creativity to get the results anyway, so I do think for us to be successful better football and results will have to (to a certain extent) come hand in hand, because without that extra creativity which will bring better football we simply won't be able to get results consistently

We no longer have Bale to rely on for these long range efforts, nor can we expect to get penalties every game. Plus we have a £26m striker who only seems to thrive on in the box action.

So without playing better football and being more creative we won't be getting results - we're going to need to play better to win matches anyway so I don't think its a direct trade off between good football and winning football because for this team to work better football needs to be played anyway
As I stated before I think once the new players have integrated and adopted the new tactics we will strangle teams and create many many chances.

Our defending as a unit has improved, which is pleasing.

I agree our defending as a unit has improved - although so far this season only Arsenal have really tested that defending and had it not been for Lloris we could have been exposed time and time again and been embarrased (though of course he is part of that back line)

In pre season the zonal marking from set plays was worrying - I hope that isn't an issue this season

Against Arsenal Dawson and Rose also looked like weak links in terms of being an effective high defensive line - this will improve when Kaboul and or the Romanian lad come in I am sure and hopefully with time Rose will grow into the role and improve his positional awareness

But we let in either more (three) or as many (once) goals last year than in the previous 4.

Unless you mean this season, which I agree with to a point, though Lloris has made some brilliant saves/sweeps.

Loris Is now a part of our defensive unit. So his saves and impressive performances have now become a normal part of our defensive workings.

definitely agree with that - the defense is the most unchanged unit in our team right now also so they should be playing with a few degrees more confidence and cohesion than the other units around the pitch.

Individual errors need to be cut out by either replacing the individuals or the individuals themselves staing up and taking on the responsibility to do as they are taught to improve. This si what i hope for Danny Rose. Unfortunately, Daws may have to bench warm for a significant part of the season this year - I love the guys passion and commitment but Vlad, Kaboom and Verts are all superior in a number of ways to him and i want the best for spurs.

Ive said it before on here - AVB took a brand new team (to him) of a lower standard of player to 5th last season - it took him about 5-6 games to get us playing well and winning games consistently.

He has less of a new team (to him) and they are of a higher standard of player this year so i would expect AVB to work his magic and really take this team of fantastic players to the heights where they deserve to be!

arsenal was not great but it is better than a 5-2 collapse and while we were by no means great we stopped them from playing their way for good periods of the match.

CP and Swansea werent overly great performances (though first half against swansea was very exciting) but we won them both, with a new manager and half a new team - we didnt do so well (lost) against similar competition at the beginning of the season last year (newcastle and norwich i believe) - not pretty granted but we clearly werent ready to be pretty without having Lamela or Erikson or even Holtby to play.

So we played in an unpretty way - won the ball back as often as we could, kept possession as long as we could, minimized their chances and took our penalties when we were presented with them .

It was a good place to start - i cant bloody wait to see the boys once gelled and playing the AVB way.

I am not a fan of Dawson.

Damn we looked good today! I haven’t seen this potential for f---ing donkeys, seriously! First, with regards to this thread, great to read so many personal stories about how each of us became Spurs fans...it’s been a journey for all of us, whatever age, and whatever version/s of Spurs we grew up with and literally grew bald or grey with!
I just watched the Norwich game in full, and in Dutch...and from LA - how the world has changed - after I knew the result and read the game threads and ratings on this great site!
As a club, we’re growing and developing something special right now that I haven’t seen since the Burkinshaw years. Like I said in the original post here, I feel AVB has a vision, we need to have faith, and we’re beginning to see the early fruits of that.
For me, like most of us, I knew we needed the creativity and vision of a genuine number 10, and Eriksen is that and more. He’s young, but his vision and ability to create space for himself and see movement in others is f--ing poetry! Paulinho is our midfield heart, operates both defensively and in attack. Rose, with the game time he’s getting is gaining confidence, is positionally better than he was, and is shutting things down on his flank. Norwich were woeful, particularly on their right side today, but he absolutely nullified anything they offered and he attacked, linked up with our midfield and kept pressing.
Watching the game after you know the result is always different from watching it live, and I’ve got to say something about Andros Townsend. He was f---ing immense IMO! Did not mind his “selfishness” one f---ing bit. He gave them fits, and linked up with Walker really well, and he kept going the whole game. He’s gaining confidence and we need that, plus he can cross the ball well with either foot, and we haven’t had that threat for as long as I can remember from any winger in recent memory.
AVB is bringing his pressing, attacking vision to life; e.g. the fluidity and versatility of positions was evident as we saw Walker moving infield more and switching positions with Dembele and Siggy at times when we were going forward.
Dembele is freed up from the responsibility of providing our sole source of midfield creativity when Eriksen or Holtby aren’t in the line-up, and he can basically get past anyone he wants to when he has that role. His issue is his hip, and you can see how this affects him during games. Today, first half great, second, it started bothering him. He could barely move or turn during the Arsenal game. I think he should just get the op now, it’s going to be a long recovery time regardless, whenever he does it.
I love Daws, but he doesn’t have the speed or positional nous to stay with AVB’s pressing game over 90 mins. Verts should be made permanent captain; immense player, has leadership and that responsibility may give him a sense of personal loyalty to our club when the Reals and Barcas start courting him.
Again...damn, we’re looking good! And I haven’t even mentioned Soldado or Lamela, or some others yet! COYS!

As a 8 year old kid in 1961 I was at my uncles when the cup final was on the TV. I was absolutely mesmerised by the team in white and have been hooked ever since. Yesterday my son took me to WHL as a 60th birthday present and I must say there has not been many times in the past 52 years that I have been as excited about our future as now. I hope this team can thrill the kids of today as well as the old codgers like me. In AVB we must trust. COYS

That's cool Cheza! I'd have loved to have seen that! You've got about 7 years on me. I was 7 when I watched us beat Chels in the Cup in '67 at my best friend's house, he actually had a TV! Funny thing is, when I watched the replay of the game today, I got a flashback of a game against Norwich. I was in the Paxton, early eighties, can't remember exactly when, can't be bothered to google when, but Chris Woods was un...f...ing...believable that day! Hoddle hit every side of the bar and post probably eighty times - Tottenham fan calculation admittedly, but it was one of those games - ended 0-0, I remember that much!

AVB appears to be giving THFC a make over ably aided and abetted by the shrewd Daniel Levy.

What great business has been done on a far less budget of a few other of our rivals. Fantastic.

Changes in character as much as ability.

AVB soon worked it all out and reported to Levy who of course deserves the plaudits for bringing on board the mercurial Portuguese.

I get the feeling AVB realised about 80% or so of his summer objectives but not for want of trying on Levy's part.

It can only get better at each transfer window.
