Is it starting to become more clear?

--Lloris--
Walker--Chiriches--Vertonghen--Rose
Lamela--Paulinho--Sandro--Eriksen
Soldado--Adebayor

It seems to me. The question marks are still Kaboul or Chiriches, Lamela or Lennon, and whether Dembele starts instead of Paulinho or Sandro, but the rest of the team picks itself for me presently.

Dawson over Chiriches for me, but I think you have it.

I think I would have Dawson behind Vlad and Younes tbh but all opinions I guess.

Just for the sake of it, 2nd 11 assuming the above is the first 11:

--Friedel--
Naughton--Dawson--Kaboul--Fryers
Lennon--Dembele--Capoue--Townsend
--Holtby--
--Defoe--
Haven't even included Chadli and Sigurdsson yet. Indicates the depth of our squad which explains why we have still been picking up points even with many players out injured.

Pretty much spot on what I'd say. Paulinho/Dembele would be the coin toss for me.

How is it coming clear, you put Lamela in there and he doesn't play! That just makes it cloudy as mud because it's guess work.

How anyone can put Lamela in is beyond me... He could become part of the team but currently he hasn't shown enough.

4-1-4-1/4-3-3
Lloris
Walker Kaboul Vertonghen Rose
Sandro
Lennon Dembele Paulinho Eriksen
Adebayor/Soldado

4-4-2
Lloris
Walker Kaboul Vertonghen Rose
Lennon Sandro Paulinho Eriksen
Adebayor Soldado

Think this shows we need a new left back and possibly a left winger.

Did you see where I said that Lamela or Lennon is still uncertain? I think a few positions are uncertain but in most we're starting to see who the best players are. You would have had to say the same thing about Eriksen a few weeks ago.

Les said the other day that we are close to knowing our strongest team. In the eyes of the management i would hazard this is:

Lloris

Walker Dawson Vertonghen Rose

Dembele Paulinho Eriksson

Lennon Soldado Adebayor
The unknowns are Kaboul, Sandro, Townsend. But Kaboul is struggling to re-find his feet because of injuries, Sandro does not offer much going forward and Townsend would disrupt the balance of the side.

Ade and soldado pick themselves. Paulinho has impressed Tim so I think he is in. Lloris is obvious, as is walker and Verts. The rest will depend on the opposition I suppose. We need a left back and a centre back badly this window.

God I hope not.
If they think thats our best 11 they will be gone in the summer.
Good team but we have better.

even though I have high hopes for Lamela I don't know how you can leave Azza out at the moment

Of course I saw it, but it was Lamela you put in the team and not Lennon! Yes some might have said the same thing about Eriksen, however today he is playing. Lets just see Lamela a few times before we decide he is in the best team.

The weakness I see in your selection is we will be playing too narrow, it's the avb mistake again. Lamela playing an inverted winger, Eriksen drifts inside. You have narrowed the play, the four defenders are comfortable being compact. You take al the space away from the forwards and all you are left with is a long range shot.

I think you need width and pace, get down the side of the full back and you are causing chaos in the defence, and any sort of half decent cross or pass is a chance.

I played as a defender at a decent level, and I would be happy all day if a team was playing in front of me, they can have the ball forever they aren't going to cause many problems, as you saw the first part of this season.

You can keep your inverted wingers. If I was a manager I would always be looking for pace down the wings and/or someone that can thread a pass in midfield.

This! But in semi-short-time I think it's essential to include Lamela for Lennon if he is as good as a lot of us think he is.

I also hope that our system can be an advanced 4-4-2 growing into a 4-5-1 during matches with soldado or ade dropping of to AM When opposition have the ball. I still think 4-4-2 is a bit of a gamble in the long run, but hey, keep those result coming and I'll be the first to cheer them on!

I think I agree with you to an extent, but AVB's mistake wasn't just that we played too narrow. There were many facets that lead to it being a dull and dire style of play. One of which was not having enough of our creative players on the pitch. I would put Eriksen and Lamela in the creative and technically gifted bracket. Lennon and Townsend are different types of players, but also remember that they both were given ample time under AVB and that alone didn't change the style of play.

With too much of the "traditional winger" set up with the kind of width you are talking about, we could start looking like United did the other day, sending in cross after cross without them finding anyone and without a plan b.

I think though that with Eriksen and Lamela on either side we could start to resemble the way that Man City play the 4-4-2 formation, with Nasri and Silva as the "wingers" who can cut in between the lines and are aided by fullbacks on the overlap. I think that is a more modern, sensible way to play. In fact our team/squad does actually bear a lot of resemblance to Man City, though we don't quite have the quality that they do. But still, Eriksen and Lamela are kind of our Silva and Nasri, Lennon is our Navas, Ade/Soldado is our Negredo/Aguero. Pellegrini is a very smart manager imo, and he knew the system he wanted to play with two strikers which is pretty similar to how he has set up other teams and it can really tear teams apart if implemented properly (as we found out). I actually think that our defense is slightly better than theirs so if we could build a similar attacking effectiveness on top of our generally strong defense we could be a real force imo.
