England team for today's game:

Rob Green (West Ham)
Glen Johnson (Liverpool)
John Terry (Chelsea)
Matthew Upson (West Ham)
Ashley Cole (Chelsea)
Shaun Wright-Phillips (Manchester City)
Gareth Barry (Manchester City)
Frank Lampard (Chelsea)
Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)
Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)
Emile Heskey (Aston Villa)

SWP instead of Lennon. Heskey instead of Defoe. Is Don Capello have a laugh?

I don't see what the big deal is, it's a friendly, therefore many substitutions will happen so both Lennon and Defoe should get their chance.

Maybe he's saving them for the important match and not a worthless friendly that most people don't care about?

Personally I'm glad they aren't playing. I don't want to risk losing key players to injury in a international match that isn't necessary.

Capello said he was going to put his strongest team out. Heskey instead of Defoe suggests either he was lying or he thinks Heskey is better then Defoe.

Don't care.

I'm sure both will come on as subs both tonight and against Croatia. Just hope that nobody* gets injured

*(exceptions made for the ManU and Chelsea players of course)

It's not about who is better.

It's about Capello wanting to play a big/little striker combination.

So it comes down to: Rooney and Defoe...and surely Defoe ain't gonna come out on top there.

No. It's because Heskey is the type of target man that is adequately suited to the system he's always played and worked so far.

I'd put Crouch in ahead of Heskey any day. His scoring record for England is top-notch.

Am I the only one that wants to see what Defoe and Lennon have achieved so far this season recognized?

This game is in preparation for the Croatia game which suggest this is the starting XI that Capello is looking at for Wednesday.

To be fair that is against nations like Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago, hence, why I refuse to see Owen as a better England striker than the likes of Lineker.

I'd sooner we saw them playing for us intact for the rest of the season. Apparently Bassong's had to be subbed off in Cameroon's game.

Either way, it flies in the face of his 'picking players on form' mantra...
