A yes man?
Someone who works well with others doesn't have to be a yes man.

We're looking at this somewhat with limited vision. Gabbanini did a good job and was in demand. Its possible and actually quite likely that he wanted the DoF role and we only wanted to retain him as Chief Scout. So leaving for other opportunities makes sense and is reasonable.

Bad news on Gab. Recruitment had been terrible for years until the past couple when we finally signed some real talent.

Some great bargains like Bissouma and great finds like Udogie and Sarr

I'm very intrigued to see who the new DOF will be.

I reckon it will be someone totally out of left field who isn't well known.

Totally agree Guntz

In one of Ange's early interviews, he mentioned the hidden talents in Japan and Asia, like college student Mitoma who tore his team apart.

Can see us tapping into that well, with new DOF

Don Fabio and his team, did a great job repairing the damage Hitchin did, playing the foundation's for us to move forwards

If we look back over the years which DoFs can we categorise as being successful and not?

Good list:
Comolli
Mitchell
Paratici
Arnesen

Not so good list
Hitchen
Baldini

Don't know list
Pleat
Ramon Planes

Must say it’s quite surprising that there hasn’t been any info about this potential appointment leaking out recently ether from our side or the incoming DoF’s side. If it really is imminent one would think someone would have heard something.

I was thinking this too.

Thinking logically, would it point to him actually being out of work, or recently left a post as opposed to under contract because I don't see why the outgoing club would necessarily keep this under wraps even if he was working his notice period.

If Levy has indeed shown buyers remorse moving towards a 'win-now' managerial approach and wishes to return to the Poch days/promotion of youth then it really wouldn't be outside the realms of possibility he returns to Paul Mitchell who left Monaco this summer.

Yeah, this is my general feeling on the matter.

Obviously, no one here on the forum has any idea what's going on or how the new structure will look, so I'm really confused at how many posters are genuinely concerned that Gabbanini leaving is the somehow the beginning of some sort of scouting decline/will profoundly impact our ability to sign any promising players in the future.

Why don't we just wait and see what Munn and the team have planned and give this new structure the time it needs to succeed. Makes more sense than worrying about changes we can't impact.
You are far too sensible for SC.

The new guy better pick up where Gabbanini and Paratici left off. Honestly, we've finally looked decent behind the scenes (aside from a few Levy moments) and we've gone and binned one of the guys responsible for that.

I’m sure we had ITK in the past saying Mitchell won’t want to work with Levy again. Tbh i don’t want him anyway and he never stays anywhere long. I’d be surprised if came back.

He was tired of being the intermediary between Poch and Levy and having to deal with Dear Leader's micromanagement and direction but this might now be mitigated with Munn's arrival being the buffer.

The Munn appointment was kept under wraps pretty well iirc. Ornstein broke the story out of nowhere and it was on the official site an hour or so later. The only clue we had was Levy being in Asia for club business a week or two before and even that was pretty vague.

Maybe it's the way Munn operates and given that it's his appointment, it would make sense that there's no leaks.

My one big hope for the new DOF & structure, is the addition of a dedicated loan & development manager, who ensures that our really talented group of academy players can get suitable loans to aid their development. Say what you will about Sherwood, he really excelled at finding good loan deals that saw our players gain valuable experience.

My one concern with DoF and managerial hires is the possibility of resort to the old boys network, recycling people of proven mediocrity. At least the Ange and Munn hires lead me to be pretty confident that won't be the case here.

But we'll see.
