Other then a goal it was a satisfying half. The officiating seemed to become more balanced as the game wore on, we had the best chances and controlled the tempo.

Still absolutely shitting myself though... supporting Spurs is like being a domestic abuser, I love you but still want to beat you in the head.

I'm reasonably happy with the first half. We hit the woodwork twice, Sigurdsson looks like he can actually take a set-piece which is nearly unheard of for Spurs, the pressing game is working well and we look (up until now) defensively sound. All this against a full-strength Newcastle team away from home. The ref seems determined to fuck us up the ass, so 3 points is probably asking too much, but I'd be happy with a point from this.

Fantastic 1st half .. Everyone is working hard and we playing good football should be at least 1-0 up

And to think we are missing a modric replacement and a new striker ..

We are going to look the business come next week :)

Not bad at all, aside from the two yellows. Defoe and Bale both hit the post (crossbar for Bale) and overall Spurs looked the stronger side (although they are fairly evenly matched) with their 2 great chances.

All we need is 1 cross or through ball to miss that post and it could be a 1-0 win. Newcastle aren't looking all that threatening attacking wise, so 1 good chance that get's put away could easily seal the deal.

All in all, Spurs look pretty good and could have easily been up 2-0 at this point.

Not worth it with only Defoe in the middle though

I know a high cross wouldn't be, but a cross behind the defensive line would be well worth a go. They're the hardest to defend.

Good half, although they came into it more towards the end. We still bossed it pretty much. Unlucky not to be ahead. The way Bale hung in the air for that header was like Ronaldo.

Defoe is doing well too, better than I expected, but we are missing Ade

Sadly, I think Modric would've been an ideal fit for this system...

Look very organised & composed! Excellent pressure when we loose position, haven't given the likes of Cabaye an inch...

But we need a 'target man' ASAP!! Llorente/Leandro would be perfect, but they're just a pipe dream I think...! I'd be happy with Ade...

Great first half. Perfectly set up for an away game. We've never looked in trouble and created some decent chances. I can see Simpson getting sent off up against Bale.

Happy with the first half - didn't really say that too often when H was in charge. Interested to see how pardew reacts and what AVB will do when that happens.

Also quite impressed with sigurdsson, hope we give him a creative licence as the season goes on.

I think our formation and tactics look fucking spot on!

Just need a creative midfielder to exchange for Livermore and a proper no.9 then we are truly sorted I believe.

Very pleased with what I've just worried they are gna nick one because for all pressing we need to continue it.
big improvement considering modric van der man and ade are not playing very impressed

Think we looked decent. Couple of nice moves. Still over reliant on Bale and Lennon though, but livermore and sandro have worked hard in the middle.

Speed up the play and get Bale on the ball, and we should score!! Not sure if we will win though.

Very happy with that. Can't believe JD is getting any criticism, looks the most likely to score out of the 22 out there that half. Judge him on how he plays, not on how you think he's going to play. Not been offside once, for a start!

I said before the game that the main thing for me was to see evidence of AVBs coaching, the off the ball stuff in particular - well I saw it all in less than 10 minutes. This is going to be a work in progress, we are going to have problems and that high line is going to get cut to ribbons at one time or another but my first reaction to AVBs first 45 is 'fuck me this could be very, very good'.

First 25 we pressed the living daylights out of them, all over the park, pressuring them into giving the ball back to us, we did it with intensity and surprising cohesion. Superb. We dropped a little after, it is fucking hot after all but our shape has remained good. On the ball it's been OK, the CBs are splitting well and Sandro is dropping into the middle well, Siggy is looking decent and Livermore has been Ok. It's obvious a plan to leave Tiote on the ball and that is working, every time Cabaye gets the ball he is crowded out. Brilliant. I would probably bring on JJ soon, basically because I don't want Jake and Sandro both on yellows.

We could still lose this, in fact I have a sneaky suspicion they will nick a lucky 1-0 for some reason, but y'know I've seen enough already to show me we could be onto something here. I really, really hope so.

And Gareth Bale is working hard. Splendid.

Vertonghen can play centre mid. I can see Livermore going off for Vertonghen in the second half

So, Verts is left on the bench, presumably to be given a chance to be eased in to the Prem and only used if needed, but we'll throw him on for his debut in centre mid against cabaye and ben arfa? Maybe late on if we are leading but can't see that happening mate tbh

Livermore played well in the 2-2 here last year and as long as he doesn't give the ref reasons to come looking for him i think he'll do fine 2nd half. Hope so anyway COYS lets do these!

Get the ball to Bale and Lennon, they are playing against 2 useless full backs, have the beating of them every time they get the ball.
