Is it part of the Real Madrid contract that you have to, at some point, conduct some sort of tax fraud?

If these guys are all found guilty of this then it's pretty disgusting. When you're earning that amount of money, to squirrel even more of it away rather than paying your fair share of tax is pathetic. It's bad enough when it's done legally to be honest, let alone when there's fraud involved.

Says Messi was given a 21 month jail term?

So presumably jail means something else than ... you know ... jail if you're a rich famous footballer?

I suspect if I got a jail term for tax evasion that I'd actually ... you know ... go to jail??

First time offenders have sentence suspended.

The BBC reported that in Spain sentences less than two years are almost always suspended.

Sickening really that these people earn so much money and then just defraud the tax system.
It's rife.

Prospective owners have to pass vetting tests to be allowed to own a club, should managers and players have something similar?

Nobody likes paying taxes
But hopefully people also understand the value of paying taxes. That's what bothers me with rich people getting caught for this stuff.

Tax money go into basically keeping any country running (or should). Ensuring quality education, health care, roads, infrastructure etc. But these rich tycoons (since it's more often those who get caught doing this) feel that they do not have to contribute.

weak.

True - but everyone should pay whats due.
Nothing wrong with trying to legally reduce them, but evasion big no no.

How would you know it was illegal if your accountant told you it was ok? They need to start charging the people giving out the advice.

I always pay my taxi but once saw Mourinho get out of one next to a cash machine only to leg it round the corner and leave the driver sitting there like a lemon
