Quite laughable when you take a step back and see our reaction to spending £25m-£30m on him with people saying he's overpriced and rather see youth come through but a team like Utd see the true commercial value of on-pitch success and splash the cash (for those who don't know Utd have a very strong U21 team who finished top of the U21 lge last year).

Now I know we're not able to offer the wages they do and attract the top players like they do with their recent history of success but we (as fans) seem to be suffering a massive inferiority complex and small club mentality. Just hope when the stadium is sorted in a few years we can start offering decent contracts like the 'sky5' do.

He'll definitely will.

Their midfield will probably be:

Schneiderlin
Schweinsteiger- Herrera
Which is an amazing midfield, with balance as well.
On paper, yes but keeping them all happy and making them a cohesive unit still requires a lot of work.

Credit to them in addressing the problems but I'm certainly not crowning them champions elect on the basis of what transpires in the summer.

If the United deal is done then fair play to Schneiderlin it's a great deal for him, although I do wonder how much he'll play for them.

I just hope it means we can move on to our next option.
He'll be first choice. Schweinsteiger plays 15-20 games a seasons for bayern in league last few seasons. I believe he and Carrick will rotate and partner Schneiderlin.

Nowhere near as pissed off as I thought I would be. But I never really believed we'd sign him after his comments about only signing for a CL Club - so was prepared for this.

Although my cat's just developed a severe limp.

You raped it?!

Must admit I'm not too excited at the prospect of McCarthy, good player but the stats show he's only slightly better than Mason. Just not sure it's worth such a big outlay on a player that's not going to dramatically improve us.

Let's face it, he couldn't join us last year cos of saints mass exodus and has had to take a sideways step to utd in light of us moving on to other targets. Got to feel sorry for the guy really.

Now, apparently Hossam Ghaly is back on f.......

But again, its not all down to general stats is it? Certainly not the basic ones that are readily available to just about everyone on line.

Mitchell developed his own way of compiling and analyzing stats. Far more detailed and account for far more variables and give a much more accurate complexion of how players are performing.

Who's to say we arn't using these when looking at McCarthy, in fact I'd pretty sure we're doing just that.

So am only the only one thinking that this in not goodbye top 4? If Hugo stays we probably have one of the stronger defences going.

We also have young hungry younger players who were still developing during last season.

If we can get a decent midfielder in and a striker, we will be a pretty solid unit.

True, but you cant really argue with passing stats, they are what they are. We needed a midfielder with a higher passing % than 85%, that's clear to anyone that watched us last season, the ability to move it quicker than Mason. Personally I'd rather we went in for one for the future now like Tielemans if we're going to bring another in.

Casillas has just left Real, doesn't fill me with confidence Lloris will be here after the window shuts

Dembele has 89% pass completion, but he's clearly not the answer.

Opinions I guess. I think McCarthy represents a very safe move - in that he'd come in and improve us collectively. He's not a dazzling pass master, but he still moves it forward efficiently - and relatively quickly. But off the ball, his positional sense and overall defensive qualities are much better than what we currently have.

Is he worth it? Absolutely IMO. Its about addressing a problem area in the team, and he does that. The next hot prospect from abroad isn't likely to come in and make a real impact for us like that - not in this position IMO.

Citeh are the weak link in the top 4 next season, for me. They'll spend money this summer, but they seem aimless. Manager who's a dead duck, they're waiting to replace. Lots of old players, and Augero is still injury prone. They could easily implode for a year. However they could also win the title too.

Only had 10 starts though, not really a fair barometer to compare. Having said that I really thought Dembele was outstanding against Everton away, it looked like he had finally grasped it tactically. Although it may have come too late and we also know he cant be relied on to start week in week out due to his constant injury's.
