Schniederlin will not solve our defensive problems, but nor will buying new CB's. Only if Pochettino can get us defending as a team, and I severely doubt he ever will because his record defensively wasn't even brilliant at Southampton with a good bunch of defenders and CM's, will we become better defensively.

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2013/oct/27/southampton-fulham-premier-league-match-report

"The most obvious difference is reflected in the team's defensive record – after nine league games last term Southampton had conceded 26 goals; at the same stage this season they have let in only three, making them the meanest team in the league".

MS would be first choice, but rather than look at him as replacing Bentaleb or Mason he'll probably take Dembele's place.

Apparently gave an interview on French TV earlier today saying he's only leaving Southampton for a CL club in the prem. French journo and Chelsea fan thinks he'll end up at arsenal...

i'd be amazed if he comes to us. I just hope we have adequate alternatives lined up that we're confident on.

Yeah he's said that before. But what if no CL Prem club bid for him? The ITK says he wants us, so I'll choose to believe that...

I personally think he'll end up at one of the Manchester clubs or Chelsea. Got a funny feeling it will be Chelsea.

He would barely play. Main partnership would be Matic- Fabregas with Oscar playing at CAM, and only against the top teams would they play 4-3-3. But we've seen players choose to go to Chelsea despite the probability of low playing time.

He'd be stupid to go to Chelsea, he won't get a look in there with Matic and Fabregas.

Arsenal would have been the obvious choice as a long-term replacement for Arteta, but with Coquelin's form this season, Wenger might pass, as he loves to develop players rather than buy.

He'd definitely join us...don't believe that.

Not saying he wouldn't pick a top 4 Club ahead of us, I'm sure he would...but if they don't make a serious bid and we do, he'd definitely come I reckon.

I think we should just forget this and move on. Player wants CL now and it's come from his own mouth in the last few days!

I just hope we can get the alternative quickly and that he is more than an adequate replacement and not simply another Stambouli.

You've said yourself that he's one of the best midfielders in the prem, and you only have to look at recent articles to see interest on him from arsenal etc. and I'm not ITK bashing here but I'd sooner believe the comments coming from the actual persons mouth than what someone who claims to have an inside scoop on the internet says...

Also to address your point on him barley playing, you honestly think that would bother him? He knows he'll have to fight for a starting spot and he probably feels he's good enough to start whereever he goes. He probably would start in every team bar Chelsea's (possibly) but I don't think that'd bother him too much when he'd a PL medal to show for it

“Yes, I think my decision is made,” Schneiderlin replied when asked if he would leave this summer.

“The goal is to stay in England, it is a championship that I like and where I have a lot of fun.

“If I leave Southampton it is for a club that plays better than the Europa League.

“There are ongoing discussions, but nothing is done. But of course the Champions League is my goal. If I leave Southampton it will be for a club in the Champions League.”

Schneiderlin has previously made clear his desire to play in the Champions League but never in such uncertain terms. Any hope from Tottenham that the Frenchman could be tempted to the Lane by the prospect of qualifying for the tournament in the near future, as well as the chance to be reunited with Mauricio Pochettino and earn more cash, now seems diminished.

That said, Schneiderlin is rapidly burning his bridges at St. Mary’s and there remains a chance no Champions League clubs will come in for him this summer. The favourites for his signature, Ars*nal, are said to be considering other targets, including Yohan Cabaye and Ilkay Gundogan, while Chelsea, also linked, probably don’t need Schneiderlin.

I actually agree with this. If one of the top four did come in for him, he'll go there. If none of them do, I think he'd come here. We'd probably be offering him double the wages he'd be on at Saints, just for a start.

They apparently offered him £60k a week didn't they? He's probably get similar here
