Our last two league games have not been clean sheets but the one goal in each has been a penalty. Three out of the six we've conceded have been penalties so it doesn't point to a disastrous defence. That said I want Skrinier so I wish I hadn't made my point.
This tbh, 2 of them very dodgy penalties and yesterday’s ever so slight dive at minimal contact.

we are still conceding chances though, but then good teams will always create anyway.

mid we get this done, it would be way beyond my expectations of a transfer window - honestly staggered at what the club have done and keeping our others.

saw a post earlier of the 11 players that didn’t play - hell of a squad we’ve got now which bodes us very well for the year ahead as that squad depth is something we’ve always been missing - that’s big club mentality right there

Last year‘s deadline day at about this time we were in a Dybala frenzy.

Enter Sessegnon.

Half the price of Harry Maguire is expensive for Skriniar? Do me a favour..
I have to wonder if we're either on the boundaries of ffp, somehow or Levy is worried about the extent of empty stadiums and how long it may last because they way he has backed Jose this window, I cannot see its because he's trying to save a few quid and grab a bigger bargain. Outgoings are also playing their part for sure but to say Skriniar is too expensive, is just pretty lazy journalism.

Maybe this year is the big reverse, usually by this time it feels like we’re about to land a big one only for it to go up in flames.

If Milan want a replacement for Skriniar...why can't they hijack the Rudiger to AC Milan deal? I mean, same city...

yeah....just because others are not keeping clean sheets

so we shouldn't bother to try either

Attack win you games...defence win you ttles

I'm not saying we shouldn't try. Was more it sounded like the poster is saying we're not keeping clean sheets whilst everyone else is.

I very much think we should go for Skriniar cause I want that one final piece. But also whilst yes, our defence has one or two mistakes in them, they've looked increasingly more and more solid. Especially with Hojbjerg infront of them. So I think we're already going in the right direction. Skriniar would be a brilliant addition but thankfully not a make or break one.

Who IS getting clean sheets at the moment? Liverpool's defence is leaking goals. City's can't keep 'em out. Chelsea's is weak. United's has Maguire in it, Leicester shipped 3 VS. West Ham. l Wolves shipped 4 vs. West ham.

No-one is keeping regular clean sheets at the moment. I don't think adding Skriniar gives us clean sheets... it does cut out the mistakes which is undoubtedly gonna be helpful but it seems like no-one is keeping clean sheets.

It's been a crazy start to the season for sure. But - only four clubs kept fewer clean sheets than us in the league last season. This is not a new problem for us.

Prime example - Man Utd at home last season. A solid defensive performance and some good counter-attacking play and we were 1-0 up late in the game, potentially with a route back to CL qualification on the cards. Then Dier gave a penalty away and we dropped points against a rival that ultimately took 4th place. People were rating him as our best player after the game "other than the penalty", which I understand but ultimately the difference between a good defender and a genuinely top class one is that they get to the end of the 90 minutes without making that fatal mistake. Both Dier and Sanchez appear prone to these kinds of brain farts and we need to find a way to iron them out.

I mean it's kinda what you said. He has already backed Jose a lot. So another 45/50 million might be that little bit too far. It's not about Skriniar's value compared to other players.

I get the difference between a good and great defender and all that. But as I said in my next post we added Hojbjerg which is helping greatly. And as others are saying, the premier league this season is giving away an extreme amount of penalties and many of them soft. Like Newcastle should have been a clean sheet other than, what we all agree, was a nonsense handball.

Last season we were poor in defence but since the restart we have been looking more secure and it's still going in that same direction.

Can't we just give them Danny rose as a replacement? They use Ashley Young as a rb or lb, which is strange, a cb Rose would equally as bad, so it's perfect for them!

I don't think that's a fair comparison given Maguire for £80m is basically the worst transfer in football history.

Part of me wondered if our link to Rudiger was purely an attempt to force their hand

Tanganga is injured again, and also we have loaned Foyth , I wonder if it will increase our desire to get him

Just to clarify a bit, Milan signing a replacement doesn't automatically mean the deal will be done. Milan haven't been straightforward over this so anything could still happen.

If you had suggested that before deadline day Tottenham would have signed six new players, with Gareth Bale among them and perhaps most stunningly of all a new striker would finally join, you'd have been laughed at all the way down the road to Seven Sisters Station.

However, that's exactly what's happened and Mourinho is delighted with the club's efforts to give him what he wants.

Yet to take Tottenham's transfer window from a nine out of ten to a perfect one, would see the club sign the top level centre-back he wants to complete his "puzzle".

We currently have 18 non homegrown players (excl CCV) and 8 homegrown (if we include Whiteman as our 3rd gk). I think it is evident that the handsome one is not in Jose's plans and will be replaced by Whiteman. If that's the case that leaves us with a compliant squad. No room for Skriniar without shifting a non-homegrown...but who? I can only think of either Sanchez, Moura or Tobby! But they would need to have suitors and be willing to go. I just cannot see Levy having highly paid players not in the squad.
