Davies is fine where he is, and there's no reason to upgrade right now, money is still finite. It's the same message with Skipp also. Everyone wanting to upgrade on everyone of our squad players is ludicrous. We need squad players who are happy and accepting to be just that, as there is no way we'd be able to keep 22 "desperate to be first teamers" happy. Squad ballance is far more than having great players in every single position and one in reserve.
Skipp is slightly different to Davies, he should be playing week in and week out. He realistically isn’t going to get that here. It would be better for both parties to move him on.
Davies seems happy to be a squad member and does a solid job when called upon.

Why pay £40m for Branthwaite when you can get Kelly for free in the summer as rotation. Money will be far better spent on a midfielder IMO.
More just thinking that someone is likely to get a bargain on him, Everton will sell him soon enough, very promising centre back, and their financial issues coupled with him being an academy product make selling him pure profit.

It’s a mad refreshing feeling being halfway through the window and actually feeling relaxed because we’ve done our key business early.

If we sign no one else this window will still have been efficient and a success, if we can add a CM or another ‘opportunity’ in a different position then that’s a Brucey bonus.

Not sure I worded it right. I get Davies is fine being a squad player and has done very well while we have injuries and he seems happy to be here for that. I am saying he might not be needed even as a squad player going forward with the 3 CBs we have plus youths.

I would sell Davies (and Sessegon) and buy a LB that will compete with Udogie, as this is probably the only area we don't have someone who can cover really IMO. And if that LB can cover CB then there is 4/5 (Royal also) who can cover CB and have cover on both full backs also, if we can find someone that fits the system and available, then we stick with Davies, but if an option comes up, we should loop to improve what we have.

For Jan transfer window, Sarr, Udogie and Dragusin are under 21.
For season 24/25, we need to bring in 2 more strong home grown players to make the quota of 8 homegrown in 25 man squad. Thats where the likes of Kelly and Gallager come in.

I created a squad list in excel. Those in bold are the homegrown.
We need to bring in (or promote) 2 homegrown players next season, and have to sell one of Gil/ Hoiberg/ Gio.
And if we sell Skipp/ Sess, we have to replace with another homegrown player.

Thanks. You are right.
Then its less pressure to buy homegrown.
I think we are actually, finally, in a good place in regards to HG. Especially when you consider PEH will probably move on eventually and Dier going. I think it’s always good to keep an eye on young talent like Sarr that we can buy young and register, which is why getting someone like Nusa now would be great. But in general we don’t have to worry too much for the moment.

The other variable to consider when it comes to HG players - UEFA have different standards.

Of the 8 spots reserved for HGs, 4 are for club-trained (Skipp, Sarr) and 4 are for Association-Trained (Maddison, Forster, Sessegnon, Davies, Johnson) - so one of the Association-trained players would have to be registered among the 17 spots. Adding more Association-Trained players won't help in that regard.

Also the U21s have to be at the club for 2 years before they can be listed on the B list (U21s) - so if we want to register Veliz next season in Uefa competition - I think he would also count against the 17.

Maybe. I still have not heard definitive answer on Sarr’s categorization for Europe. Def will be HG for EPL. As I understand it theres a potential weird quirk about how UEFA defines “full season” since Sarr was technically signed after the 21/22 season started (although still during the summer window). I hope that’s just an urban legend and he’s 100% Club Trained HG for Europe too.

Are we sure Sarr will be HG? I'm not sure he'd have the 3 seasons...
Seems to accepted he'll be HG but...

Does the 21/22 season he spent on loan back to Metz count towards his qualification for us then? I'd assumed he'd be an overseas player for both PL and Europe...

In terms of Sarr, from next season he will be able to be classed as a homegrown player despite the fact he was born in Thiaroye, Senegal. Premier League League rules state: "A "Home Grown Player" means a player who, irrespective of nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to The Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons, or 36 months, before his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21)."

Signed from Metz in the summer of 2021, this is now Sarr's third season as a Tottenham player. Although he did return to the French club on a season-long loan deal immediately after his move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, he was still included as an under-21 player on their submitted list for the 2021/22 campaign.

Featuring on the list again in 2022/23 and now this season, the Senegal international will be classed as homegrown next term as he will have been registered as a Tottenham player for a period of three seasons before his 21st birthday or the end of the season in which he turns 21.

Goes to show the added value of going after players like Nusa, Vermeeren and Bardghji now, they could all be classed as HG in 3 seasons time.

We hold important cards going into this summer... most teams except us need to sell before they buy. Complete buyers market right there, we should keep our powder dry until May and abuse the strength we've allowed to develop through our astute focus on the finances in recent years.

Bleed teams of their assets, it's our greatest chance to go for a title not just one season but for many ahead.

As I mentioned earlier, this window is the last one for Nusa and Vermeeren as they will both be 19 come summer. Bardghji we can wait tho as his birthday isn’t until winter.
