Mid-Season Breaks

A thread to gather the thoughts of fellow Spurs fans on potential mid-season breaks, following from this article by the Beeb:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49192239

Seeing a player like Son hitting those sorts of numbers, should Spurs be doing more to protect the players health better than they currently do? We have seen a lot of talk about how little rest the England lads got after the World Cup last summer and it's effect on our season (11pts from potential 30 out of the last ten games of the season speaks volumes).

Do you guys think a mid-season break is required? Or should Spurs be promoting more of a rotation to provide the required recovery periods between games?

There’s is a 2 week break this season in February but if anything there should be less international football.

Club sides are the ones who financially are on the line for these players so they should be able to use there assets as they need/want

Probably, but we know the reality of a winter break will mean overseas friendlies.

I just looked to see what other clubs do and found articles from Bayern Munich's official site from 2017 and 2019. They went to Qatar for a week of training and then played in a four-team tournament.

Ajax went to the US and played two games vs Brazilian teams in Florida.

Granted it's less than Premier League teams play but it's also not a break.

I'd be interested to know the profits club makes on those pre/post seasons tours as I feel like they're taking the piss with the players, with regards to mid-season, I'm well for it, I'd remove the league cup, it's fucking shit and just lessens the prestige of the F.A cup knowing there's two bites of the cherry.

How mid season break will work in prem is there will be 5 fixtures one weekend and then the remaining 10 teams play the weekend after, so there's still football but everyone gets a break, not particularly a fan of the split, rather they just gave everybody the same break. Less international football would be fantastic also.

Champions league final all English clubs EUFA cup final all English clubs .
Now all the other leagues DO have a winter break of at least a month and perhaps it should be them cancelling the break as it don't seem to be doing them any good.
Surely in this day and age with the technical knowledge on players fitness the clubs can rest players that need resting as squads are so large these days without the need for shutdown of a month to six weeks its hard enough already to fit in fixtures in the given timescale without taking away a months playing time.
Also a club like ours gives natural breaks thru injury's note Kane/Son /Dele/Winks /Dier/Wanyama/Aurier/Davies/Rose/Lloris all injured at some time so they were not playing but recuperating there are others that were injured but I am sure you take my point.
Some will say that being injured is not resting But training after injury is not as full on as playing in the real deal games.
If you have a months break and when you return there is a bad spout of weather that makes playing games impossible then you could be extending the season to halfway thru the cricket season thus making summer rest time even shorter.
Thats the anti view I await the pro view.

Do you think last season is the only season they played UCL or EL? The argument of English clubs getting to both finals for the first time ever being an argument for not having a mid season break is really stretching the boundaries of logic

More rotation is what's needed. We've seen this pre-season that we've got academy players who don't look at all out of place, but weren't given a chance despite the crisis last season. No need to cut the number of games which fans greatly enjoy.

All I have done is give the anti view I could just as easy give a view for a break all I was asking was for a pro break opinion.
As for one season dominance not being the norm I would like to suggest that with the spending power of all clubs in the premier league it makes our league more competitive than other European leagues who have maybe only two or three clubs with spending power thus making our clubs more used to playing full tilt most of the time.
Incidentally it may I believe become the norm that our clubs will mostly dominate European football for the reasons I have just stated.
If you believe a break is required please give reasons.
You might like to note that apart from the normal top six there are now newly rich clubs with lots of money to splash IE Wolves/Everton/Aston Villa/Liecester . Our top league is going to be even more competitive than it already is and the top four or top six had better be on their toes otherwise be overtaken by the nouveau rich will be pushing them aside.
Next year is going to be monumental in my opinion.

The more good teams = stronger league =. teams qualifying for Europe have more ability and fire power to tackle other teams in Europe leading to my view mostly English teams dominating in Europe.
PSG challengers=nil
Juventus challengers=nil
Bayern and Dortmund challengers= nil
Real/Barca/Athletico and then zilch
