anyone know why he went off? just a chance to try out more people? i hope it wasn't anything to do with those clattering challenges before half time.

I've always thought that Mr.Bale looks like he's been half prepared as an extra in Planet of the Apes

How about this for a compromise...

Dear Gareth
As your humble fans, I'm sure you are aware that we watch and generally dote on your every move. As such we'd like to draw your attention to a couple of items.
Firstly, we love you desperately, mostly in a proper guy way but there are a few SC members who for one reason or another ...
Anyway you made a great impression at the start of last season and this season looks like picking up where you left off as one of our most exciting signings in years.

The other point we'd like to mention is your coiffure and your predilection for grooming in the middle of games. Naturally we would stop short of asking you to desist, just in case it is linked in some Samsonian way with your performance, which as previously mentioned is top-drawer. So feel free to continue with whatever habits, foibles, behaviours that work for you. All we ask in return for this Permit De Preen is the following:-
- you get PFA Young Player of the Year
- you score the winning goal in the cup competition final
of your choice
- you help us secure CL footie next season
- when you skin Gary Neville, do NOT whip a cross in. Instead please go back and skin him again. After that I don't care what you do coz we'll be 2 goals up by then anyway
- STAY FIT!!
- sign the contract extension when it's put in front of you

All things considered, that seems a fair deal because let's face it you DO look really odd when you do that thing with your hair.

Your humble fans on SC

If we can forgive Ginola for doing those bloody 'because i'm worth it' shampoo commercials I'm sure we can forgive Bale for playing with his hair.

He's hardly as vain as someone like Beckham is he and besides, I think it's just jealous baldies complaining.

talking of strange hair I have a worry about the Arshavin deal....why is his hair always wet? I'm starting to get concerned that he only plays well in the rain, so he'll be useless in August

Yeah good point, it NEVER rains in August.

To be fair to Gazza Bazza, as a fellow fringe-sporting adolescent, they can get annoying when playing sport and you need to push the hair across your face so it doesn't get in the way. Otherwise it becomes straggly and gets in your eyes. It's not that amazing really, it's not like he was going in for tackles doing his hair whilst applying Brylcreem and holding a pair of straighteners in the other hand.

He does play with his hair a lot.

To be honest, he's a very strange looking fellow. He looks like he was hastily cobbled together using parts of other men, with little attention paid to proportion and whether bits actually fit together. But he's still young, and may end up looking like a normal human being in the next few years.

what a bunch of cocks some of you really are, who gives a flying fuck about hair styles and the looks of our players.

Why do you feel the need to personally abuse a young talent such as Bale?

I'm not worried about Bales hair what does worry me is his susceptibility to injuries - especially to the ankle. In his enthusiasm to win the ball he is nearly always at full stretch and uncompromising defenders like he met yesterday against Dortmund are always likely to cause injury because he is at full stretch. He should be taught to tackle so that his ankle joint is not rigid waiting to be struck by the defenders boot. One way is not to make every tackle a sliding tackle but to stand up and with experience he will learn to win the ball without risking injury every time. Of course on occasion injuries are inevitable but the risks can be reduced without making each tackle a matter of life or death. Gareth is more valuable attacking the defence than winning do or die tackles every time. 2 good examples who cant tackle and uneccisarily risk injury are Gazza and Rooney. Neither can tackle and are more valuable staying injury free and doing what they are good at.

Message to Bale:

If you carry on playing as you are, I will pay for you to have your hair styled in a top London salon of your choice. Not only that; I will also provide a mirror and comb (both from top of the range 'luxury' manufacturers) which you can keep in your shorts during games, in case of any significant stoppages and/or passages of play in which you have no involvement.

I like where this thread has gone, not where it started.

Im pretty sure the inital comment was said tongue in cheek, it was a funny observation that Bale plays with his hair an excessive amount during games.

Im sure the origional poster like anyone else doesnt really care in the slighest about his hair as long as he is doing the business on the pitch.

Bale can wear a bra and make up on the pitch for all I care as long as he plays well and helps our team win.

But this is a supporters forum so funny remarks and observations like this are perfectly jusitifed being here.

Our players have got some dubious hairstyles this pre season.

JJ's clipped bowl cut
Bentley's greasy school boy side parting
BAE's streaked afro (quite cool)
KPB's bleached mohican
Bale's overflowing bowl cut

Any others?

HAHAHAA we all thought the same when watching the game! Every time the camera was on him he was fixing his swept bangs or his sideburns, I had a good laugh about it.

He looks to be getting up to match sharpness quickly though, he's improved over the last 3 games ive seen
