Don’t know a huge amount about him but what I’m most encouraged about with the links so far is that they seem to make sense to balance a lot of our weaknesses. If we sign Tomiyasu it’d bring in a really composed two footed player that would slot in really well as a left centre back. Signing Lacroix would give us hugely needed pace in the back line. I know Mourinho would have always played the low block but in reality with the defenders we had it would have been tough to do much else.
Even if we look forward with Rodon, Doherty and Reguilon in the plans these players make sense. Rodon is great in the air, loves to defend but can be a little lumbering especially when pulled out and could do with both pace and composure next to him. Doherty is better as a wing back but doesn’t have much pace so having a pacy centre back to be able to cover his side would be huge. Reguilon is blessed with speed, but showed he had some defensive liabilities and some rushes of blood to the head last season and would benefit from some security next to him to help cover the defensive load.
I’m all for signing proven superstars if we can, but lesser known players that actually fit together well might be a better solution right now.
