Over the last couple years I've watched less and less football and as a result I feel so clueless when we are linked with players now. I used to hate it when people would base their opinion on a potential new signing on YouTube but its largely what I am left with now.

I don't know much about Doherty, but from the videos I have seen he is an out and out attacking Wing Back that gets goals in centre forward positions. What is his defensive game like? I am assuming this move will really cement the idea of Davies playing more of a LCB role?

My only worry is that we seem to be gearing up for a squad that is built around Plan A?

Danny Rose saw a lot of football and he still had to Google the players. FWIW I think Doherty will be great for us

This is the ballsiest take I’ve seen for a while. Let’s see how it pans out.
It's a bold strategy Cotton...

Edit: I then read the rest of the thread and saw that @spursfast had caught up with the news. Nice to see someone on the internet hold their hands up when they're wrong! :)

Of course, not knocking it. My lack of knowledge about Doherty, as I say I don't know anything about his defensive abilities, just leads me concerned that we will have to play with a lopsided team every week

but the plan is to play lopsided like we did much of last season under JMo

Considering a big criticism of Mourinho’s spell at Man Utd was that he never seemed to establish a Plan A, I’m not at all concerned by us committing to a set way of playing and recruiting players ready-made for that system. If anything I’m heartened and encouraged by it.

and it’s not truly lopsided if we slide into a back 3 in possession and now we have a real CDM in Pierre to help cover

Skimmed through 59 pages (admit I missed a few) but does anyone know if there is a known delay? Are we still nailed on signing him? 24hrs ago people were saying 100% done and talking as if he had signed but no Stoof Stamp©️. Each hour that passes is making me more and more nervous that they'll double the price and we'll be left with nothing.
Im hoping its to tie up Serge details with AC Milan and announce both simultaneously?

He was still flying back from his holiday yesterday so it was always likely to be a few days before it’s all confirmed. Wolves might also delay it a bit while they continue to negotiate for AMN from Arsenal, and like you say it might suit us to delay until we’re closer to an agreement with Milan for Serge.

How do you know that’s the plan? We didn’t exactly have much choice with how we did it last season as we only had Aurier and Davies. What if there is something in the Reguilon link today, can’t imagine Jose would just decide we have to be lopsided. Best team in the league romped to the title with two adventurous full backs I’m sure Jose would at least like the option.

I've missed the link to Regulion that you mention. Any chance you could point me in the right direction please.

Edit: I've seen the reports in the media on various sites, but have we had any more legit info that I've missed.

Nothing ITK wise or from an English paper.

He’s coming back from holiday and I doubt we’ll train again until Tuesday after the two friendlies, so I think we’ll probably try to get it done by then.

The lopsided talk is a bit misleading. It's not lopsided anymore than it was under Poch. With the Poch system the defensive midfielder dropped between the centre back and both fullbacks bomb forward. With the Jose system the left back tucks in so you still have a 3. Now you have a right back pushing on and the right sided player inside.

Under Poch we attacked pretty evenly with both full backs looking to attack on the outside.

In this formation its not quite the same as whoever plays LW tends to want to cut inside, meaning we are a bit more predictable.
