That horror show emphasises how patient we must be with Antonio....he really has a huge job and will take more than one or two windows to get us where we want to be.

Moura mom... simply cos he injected life into a lost cause.

Only players to come out of that shambles with any credit were Davies, Winks , Moura and Kane.

Gollini - 6 - Not much to do but did not command his area (Rodon had to concede the corner they scored from as he did not come for the ball). Does not exude confidence in the defenders.
Doherty - 5 - Do not understand why he played on the left 2nd half. Made some good runs into the box first half but team mates could not find him. Pedestrian outside of the box though and offers little creation.
Tanganga - 4 - Very, very poor. Sloppy in possession. Terrible marking for the goal. Sadly I think he is not good enough for a club with top 4 ambitions.
Rodon - 6 - Some shaky moments first half. I can see why he is so far down the pecking order. I think he is a good defender with a lot of potential but needs games. We should loan him out.
Davies - 7 - Ran a lot. Took ownership of possession. Aggressive on set pieces.
Sessegnon - 6 - Probably our best player first half. No idea why he went to the right. Totally blunted his attacking instincts.
Winks - 7 - Good set pieces. Flukey goal though. Was one of the few who did not come out of the game too badly but still not good enough in general possession.
Ndombele - 4 Couldn't be arsed. Looked slow and lazy and uncommitted. Didn't even want to leave the pitch with any urgency despite us being 15 minutes from elimination. Don't want to see him play for us again now. Time to move him on.
Lo Celso - 6 - Tried hard but kept losing his footing and messing up. Needs a run of games to get some form. but not sure he deserves to play to get that run.
Gil - 5 - Looked like a boy playing against adults. Too slow, weak, one footed. Good movement and clearly has a footballing brain. Just needs another year or two playing regularly in a less physically demanding league to develop.
Dele - 4 - Not a CF, so some sympathy playing out of position. But no urgency or ability to affect the game. Amazing how far he has fallen.

Moura - 8 - Changed the game
Kane - 8 - Ditto
Skipp - 6 - Thought when he came on he got caught in possession a few times.
Scarlett - n/a
Royal - n/a

Conte - 6 - Poor team to play. Would rather see U23 players if we have no centre forwards rather than see Dele steal a living up front. Inverted WBs made no sense. Maybe he was making a point to Levy and Lewis about the need to sign a new centre forward now.

We badly need better WBs and/or a better CM (more creative) before Conte's 3-4-3 system has any chance of being successful against good teams.

Well now that was fun

firstly I’ve got no idea why conte switched to inverted wingbacks st half time. It’s almost as if he decided that because their crossing was so shit (or simply nonexistent in Doherty case) that they might as well not bother playing with extra width.
starting with a team of midfielders didn’t work either- so unless that was another team plan (always this plan!) to show those upstairs that the squad is wonky then I’m lost.
Players:
Gollini 5
Doherty 3
Tanganga 2
Rodon 3 (getting turned by a breve Ben brereton diaz was humiliating)
Davies 6
Sessegnon 6
Winks 7 much better
Ndombele 2 actually made some tackles. Doing a xhaka when subbed was ironic for him
Lo celso 5 never really know what he does. It seems good but it’s always so hard to remember
Gil 6 I believe he will be good
Alli 2 me neither

subs did what we hoped they didn’t need to.
Overall very much a January transfer window performance.
id keep Gil, sessegnon Davies and winks

I must be the only one that thought dele did ok given the unfamiliar position and lack of service. He held the ball up, made runs and hassled the defence. He is at least robust and doesn’t fall over / get brushed off the ball constantly like Lo celso and Gill. I’d start him in place of son for the next game personally, preferably with winks snd skipp in a midfield 3.

Winks MoM for me, keeps improving and is now pushing for first team selection on a regular basis.

rodon looked composed, not sure why he isn’t further up the pecking order really.

great yo see sess back yo fitness we really need 2 wingbacks on each side snd I have a sneaky position he will give Reggie a run for his money if he can stay fit

Thought Sess was decent. He looks more robust and a lot less timid than he did before his loan spell.

Moura (8) has this poking style of disrupting defenders . Because he's so fast over a yard he can often surprise them . He doesn't do it all the time . Last night not particularly til he lost the ball once and wanted to make up for it and immediately poked the ball away from the defender . I thought why not do it all the time ?
Anyway he did for his goal . We just need to get his shooting up to the standard he has in training and he could achieve legendary status imo .

Great shot from Kane (7)..I believe we have full on Kane back now . vs Chelski not so much , but match before that he was dribbling and creating with some success .

I don't quite get the perception that as Morecambe is 2 tiers down then they are easy meat for our 2nd string . A motivated and well organised defence can trouble the best of teams . Disappointing tho of course .

Don't understand where NDombele's (3) skills have gone , Bryan (5) looks like he needs to bulk up and have regular footie ..loan ? Rodon (6) loan too ? Signs of something good going on with Sess (6) .

Gollini - Not good enough for us, be it lacking game time or whatever. I realize it's hard to come in playing with a shaky defense in front of you but really isn't radiating any sort of confidence.

Doherty - Did ok, running slot and actually showing intent with runs into the box. Seems to have confidence issues and probably isn't good enough but also has the role of a convenient scape goat at times.

Tanganga - Needs regular game time, be it through a loan or playing with the kids, looked shaky and the defending for their goal was so poor it's hard to find redemption for him.

Rodon - Looked poor and shaky all game, a loan might do him good and would love to be wrong but strikes me as being in the same category as CCV, gonna end up going on countless loans and just never make it with us.

Davies - Did ok. With his improvement under Conte already I'm gonna give him a pass this game. Probably isn't good enough to lead the back three, specially with these two partners but have done a good job regularly in the three when lead by Dier.

Sess - Mixed bag for me, tried to make stuff happen at times but nothing really came off. Missed quite a sitter after switching over to RWB, still young but did nothing to take claim on a regular starting spot.

Ndombele - Looked lazy, weak on the ball and totally lacking vision. He's possessing so much talent but showed absolutely nothing of that yesterday. Needs to be sold at a loss as he gives to vibe of being poison to the group.

Winks - Was Winks. Great goal be it a fluke or actual intention, looked like he cares at least.

Lo Celso - Frustrating. I was sure he was gonna be a star for us but it hasn't really happened for him for one reason or another. Weak shooting, under hit passes and at times quite a bad body language. Looked a lot more interested when Ndombele walked off and Lucas + Kane entered. Wouldn't actively work on getting rid but certainly wouldn't oppose to sell him.

Gil - Ran a bunch but can't see why there are people rating him highly. Still young and adapting to a new country though so there still might be a player there. Wouldn't label him a flop as of yet but was a bag of meh out there today.

Dele - Not a striker. I think it's time for him to move on to be honest. Whatever played he was he just isn't any more. Whatever his strengths are or used to be we're not playing a system fit for him. Might wanna look at a loan option for him if we can find any takers, Lingaard looked like an amazing player when he went on loan to West Ham last season, maybe Dele just needs to find somewhere where he's played every week and gets a bit of love but atm he's offering nothing for us.

Lucas - Came on and won us the game. Not overly fuzzed by him overall as I feel he's a very frustrating player but today he was all the difference. Credit where due. MOTM for me.

Kane - Missed quite a sitter, then scored a goal where he made it look so easy. Happy seeing him yell at Ndombele to get off the pitch and actually showing he cares, at least a bit.

Skipp - Ran a bunch. Did an ok job after coming in, nothing more.

Emerson - NET

My 2c on the inverted wingbacks. They were packing defence and we have no obvious aerial threat. So crosses from the byline were never going to work. By cutting inside onto a shooting foot from 20 yards they were more likely to nick something. Not saying I agree.

i feel a bit sorry for dele in that the liverpool game was probably his best performance in about three years(yes i know he messed up a couple of chances) but since then he's not been played in that same role/system. maybe it wouldn't have amounted to anything but it's not easy for any player coming in and out of the side and playing a different position each time.
