Absolute gent, i was gutted when he left, and the way it happened made me feel sick to my belly. The one and only time i've ever taken a break from following the club for a bit and wasn't entirely sure i'd come back to any real degree. I didn't want to support a club that operated like that. Glad it's behind us, but i still miss the big fella.

Papa Jol; The Big Boss. He' a good man. Had to go, but I doubt there's a spurs fan that doesn't feel fondly about him.

Wenger probably still has nightmares about him squaring up to him. :D

Always liked M.J. and his down to earth style way of talking. Loved the fact that he was a Spurs fan since Jimmy Greaves day.

IMO did a fantastic job as manager - took over a squad to which Frank Aanessen had added about 24 first team and reserve players which he had to mould into a team - and did that very well despite the calibre of players which in many cases is well below the standard we'd expect today.

Despite that start in his second season with Spurs we achieved 5th place, the best we'd done for some 20 years (after being 4th for 5 months continually after Christmas - and only dropping to 5th after 'Lasagnegate'),

And then a great return to Europe with 6 straight wins - the first Spurs manager to achieve that - and another 5th place finish.

Despite his possible shortcomings with subs etc, put Spurs back on the map - and I'm not sure if too many other managers would have done better in the time he had with Spurs Crazy way for him to go after being undermined by the Ramos situation

Great podcast with Martin Jol recorded last month - and a few interesting relevations - and he still loves Spurs !http://thetottenhamway.com/article/...-bmj-plus-anderlecht-and-bournemouth-reviewed

I will never forget the night that Jol got sacked. I feel sick just thinking about how he must of felt finding out that everyone knew apart from him. The sight of Kelmsley sniggering in the directors box when we let that goal in as if he was pleased about the whole situation. Jol was always dignified in everything he did, it was a shame that our club weren't that night.

I remember some of the top ITK at the time painted a picture of Jol being a bit of a piss-taker, and pretty much causing his own sacking after going to an interview with Newcastle. Another criticism was that he tried to put the cost of a home disco on club expenses.

A fucking disco.

Love that man :D

Yeah I remember the Newcastle itk. Didn't know about the disco though. Pretty ballsy!

The way he was sacked was disgusting. I always appreciated him as a manager as he looked pleased to have the job rather than we should have been pleased to have him.

Levy has made some mistakes in his time and he has made some great moves as well, putting Jol in charge was one of his best as he was the one that got this ship sailing again, I think one of his worst mistakes was not letting Jol go but how he did it. It was so sad to see, especially with the bond the fans had with him.
