How many European titles have they won in that time though? They’ve been beaten by more progressive, attacking tactics every single time they’ve stepped into the knockout rounds of the UCL.

As a whole, Italian football follows that defence first mindset but it’s still an exception to the general rule that modern, successful teams all employ some form of an attacking/progressive style of play. Although There will always be one or two exceptions to every rule.
Jose has been to two European finals and won one since he left us. Sevilla beat him in that final with a counter attacking side.

David Moyes has also won a European trophy in that same time period.

It would seem only the Champions League favours attacking teams on its finals. With Madrid, Liverpool, Bayern, City etc winning it in recent years.

This suggests of you want to win things with an attacking approach, you have to be the absolute epitome of that approach.

There are no underdog attacking sides that win anything.

However, Chelsea, have won the CL within the last 5ish years with a defensive approach as the underdog.

This isn't to request a change in style. Just to point out that only the VERY BEST attacking sides win in Europe.

If you're an underdog, then you are far more likely to win by focussing on defence.

Next 2 weeks will be a huge test. In my opinion, we should completely punt the City game given our current depth.

Play all backups and play Conte ball to try to keep it to 3 or 4 nil.

Simply cannot afford to put 90 mins on Son, Gio, Udogie, Porro, Lolo, Sarr, Kulu, etc with the critical games against West Ham and Newcastle coming up 3 and 7 days later. Those are the games that matter.

I know it’s against everything we are to punt, but we absolutely need to. We can’t let City beat us 3 times.
Not in Europe, out the League Cup but sure, let's also start throwing the few games we do have to play. Especially against a team we usually do well against.

Interesting distinction pep made about the inverted fullbacks. Something like he sometimes asks his fbs to tuck in next to the DM but Ange uses his more like extra AMs “in the pocket” and breaking into the box

Metalhead

But that's a debate for another thread.....

That's just his opinion. We're never playing 'Conte ball' under Ange in a million years

It’s quite simple in my mind. If anyone in this thread has got a problem with Ange, after literally a few months in which we have played some of the best football I have seen in years, then you are a major part of the problem of modern football.

We have a ridiculously high number of important players out, yet we still absolutely battered Villa and should have 3/4 up by the time Bentancur went off. That is down to Ange and his football philosophy.

It’s funny because when Conte was here, you had people on here saying “I can accept losing if we try to win and play well”, yet that is clearly not true.

Give Ange a few more players and get the injured ones back and he will make us a force to be reckoned with, and I truly believe he will win us a trophy in his time with us.

The football we have played this season has been so good, although the Chelsea game aged me 10 years

Last season it was hard to watch, this season it’s a joy.

I really hope we all stay behind Ange..

Feel for the guy having to play some of this dross. Hope we strengthen in the January window but you already know what will happen.

Neville trying his best to bring Ange down because he's bitter that £500M and two years under that characterless joke Ten Haag and Man Utd still don't have an identity.

We'll probably get a CB, but most of our business will probably be in the summer.

But, put Romero and VdV in the back line.

Put Madders in CM.

Put Bentancur or Sarr in at CM.

Its almost a completely different team and outlook - without spending any money.

So, yes, we need to strengthen - but the summer is a better time for that - when more options will be available. CB is the only real black hole in the team right now

I don't care about today's result. I'm all in. Give Ange the tools and he will bring success to this football club.

And he'll do it in style.

When I first expressed my trust in Ange and the process, it wasn't just a hopeful sentiment. It was a belief in something more significant, something transformative. And boy, has he delivered!

The emotional rollercoaster during the City game showcased the essence of our journey. Remember when I was laughed at for saying we were playing well? Fast forward, and the equalizer happened – a testament to the trust we placed in Ange.

What makes this journey even more special is the shared experience with my 11-year-old son. His tears of joy during the games, the laughter, the discussions – it's brought us closer than ever. Ange hasn't just shaped our playing style; he's molded family moments that will stay with us forever.

As a father, seeing my 11-year-old moved to tears of joy is an indescribable feeling. Ange's impact transcends football; it's about building connections, creating memories, and fostering a shared passion.

So, here's to Ange, the architect of not just a playing style but of emotional bonds and unforgettable moments. This journey has become the highlight of our lives, and we're eagerly anticipating what lies ahead.

COYS! 💙
