From the quotes I’ve seen so far, I hope internally he realises, how it can’t continue with that defence/midfield.

I really can't see him changing that much to be fair. He's been pretty clear about that.
Then he has to take risks as far as personnel are concerned. I'd have been far happier taking a loss whilst blooding youngsters who are the future of the club over players that been here too long and have no future here at all.

He comes across as someone who actually see's these things the fans do as well though so I hope that means he drops some of these players
He has to give youth a chance now and be brave
Yep. And all things being equal I think he'd have done that today but we've seen him care about the human and not just the player. I think unless he's sure the chance will be a benefit to not just the team but them as individuals and isn't too soon it won't happen. We'll just have to wait and see.

I think people may be more accepting of the losses whilst playing youngsters now they've seen the alternative.

Dier, Davies and Hojberg shouldn't start again for us and Emerson shouldn't be starting at left back.

Play the youngsters as at least they have a chance of getting better.
The problem is we have to put square pegs in round holes. Teams like City have round pegs to slot in.

The key take away for me was Shakhtar and how he said the players were too focused on the time and the scoreline.

Side note, I enjoyed Rio in this very much. More stuff like this with managers would be great.
The players were guilty of this again today

PS: Dier, PEH namely

The Conte thing again. He's the one who had Sarr and Biss in his squad and rejected Maddison from being added to it. And clubs are hardly battering his door down.

Puhlease. Move on. Football has from coaches like him.

Best team won. They showed ambition and we didn’t. Has to be on Ange for picking players who we all know won’t or can’t play progressively.

If he does it again and we see the same outcome, it’s really gonna be disheartening. He has loads of credit in the bank but we could easily be mid table by Jan. Which is where I said we’d finish after you know who paid down stadium debt instead of providing his latest coach with strength in depth.

Love Ange but he deserves criticism for today. He talks about being brave but stuck with Eric Dier who he himself knows is the opposite profile of defender required for his football to work.
Completely see where you’re coming from but hard to say mate as he sees Phillips and Dorrington etc in training so what if he thinks the drop down in level right now is so big that today would’ve been a car crash with one of them in over Dier or Davies.

We will never know and I personally would’ve liked to see Phillips start but I also trust Ange, mabye Phillips etc just not quite ready to be thrown in just yet 🤷‍♂️

I think the question is, how less ready can they be than players who have proven they aren't up to it for years now?

Maybe at this stage they simply are just less ready. There are a lot of other things to account for when just chucking in a youngster. The step up in quality that is the PL, how much they've even trained with the first team and Ange in general, the desire to ease them in for the benefit of their development, as opposed to throwing them in, and that's before you even assess just how suited their attributes even are to the system we use.

I get that Dier and Davies aren't the answer for sure, but we have on numerous of occasions, had fine performances with them present. You are risking either way really but you also aren't potentially breaking a young players confidence if they come out badly off the back of you (Ange) really not being sure about their selection.

I think with the type of manager Ange has proven to be, I trust him enough to say that if he deems some of the youngsters less up to it than Dier and Davies, for whatever reason, then that may very well be the case.

I’m not hanging dier and Davies out to dry , they were fine today , they showed some fight , I thought kulu , son , Sarr and bissouma were awful . Today was a fight and they didn’t show any I’m afraid . There was an element of Conte ball today but as a team we need to also be able to kill a game off and the fact we kept hurrying throw ins and goal kicks when we were 1 up showed total naievity and really poor game management. We nearly dropped points at Luton and palace very late on shows today was not a one off . Plenty of work to do and long and painful end to 2023 I’m afraid .
Sorry, Dier was an embarrassment and the reason we lost that game. Caught out of position non-stop, playing the opposition onside constantly as he knows he doesn’t have the pace to chase back and booted the ball out of play under no pressure which directly led to their equaliser.

I think Dier gets some pretty awful criticism but equally he’s a garbage footballer and deserves it today.

Too many ordinary players in the team today and Ange wasn't brave enough with a couple of selections.

Also worrying that he doesn't seem able to alter the approach at all depending on the circumstances.

Being attack-minded is brilliant and we should go into matches with that mindset.

But we also need to be able to change that approach if the game needs it, as it desperately did today.

Easy to blame the usual suspects, but Ange takes as much of the blame for me today.
Playing the same way is fine we just need to wait until he has a few stronger players in the squad to do so.

Villa game could be ugly if we deploy a high line vs Diaby & Watkins.
Ange needs to be smart the next two games, or we’re in for more bruises.

We lost the game because we had no control in possession or threat going forwards. That’s not on Dier, that’s on the whole team.

Today was a litmus test for whether the old guard could step up. They failed, with apologies to Davies who deserves to stay. They may get a little better at this style over the next 6 weeks with constant exposure, but they won't be much better. I'm all for optimism, but we have Villa, City, West Ham and Newcastle in the next four. With this lot playing, and I'm not being dramatic, we will be lucky to get 4 points from 12. We simply need to get on the front foot now, even if that means taking risks like Dorrington or Phillips at CB, or Veliz and Donley ahead of Gil off the bench.
