I don't expect us to spend the money Manchester City do but I think we should be able to match Liverpool and Arsenal's spending power. Otherwise, what was the point of the new stadium and the subsequent debt?
We're getting there mate. Fact is we're just going through a season without European football which is hugely lucrative, and Arsenal and Liverpool will be benefitting. Liverpool in particular have had a very successful few years which has yielded them proportionally higher revenues including sponsorship deals.

If we want to spend big then with the PSR rules we need to make sure our profits are proportionately big. We need to keep growing organically. The new stadium will be hugely helpful, but now we need to keep developing on the pitch and Ange seems like a good driving force to where we want to be. Another crucial factor is both our academy and player trading... if we can buy players like Udogie, Sarr, Bergvall and younger academy talents for cheap and one day sell them for sizeable profits, that will give us a big margin in PSR rules to be able to spend more.

Other clubs are shitting themselves about PSR. Those that were overspending thought they would just get a fine and be comfortable with that, but now they're getting points deductions it's full panic mode. Many of us were jealous of Chelsea's spending but now they look completely screwed when they have to finalise their annual results. If the PSR rules remain, then we will have one of the greatest spending powers of all the clubs worldwide.

Back to Ange... he's well aware of where we are and seems to be working well in tandem with Levy, Munn and Lange to all move in the right direction. I'm enjoying what Ange is doing on and off the pitch so the future is looking bright!

I'm still not convinced the points deduction is enough really. Unless they get enough to relegate the big teams. Time will tell but I'm not getting my hopes up too much over the odd clubs getting some points taken. It still feels the balance is way off. City and Chelsea have cleaned up so many titles over the years it feels like a points deduction is worth it for the success.

I'll be stunned if City don't get relegated at least 2 levels.

Prepared to be stunned.

The case against them is much harder to prove as it comes down to proving they falsified revenue streams. The FA don't only have to prove they lied but also that the execs from their apparent sponsored have lied as well. Not easy to do when Man City can spend whatever it takes on their legal defence. I wouldn't be surprised if the whole thing was thrown out and they walked away without any penalties at all.

Surely they cant, surely that cost has to paid by the club and surely that has to be shown on their accounts. Not been pedantic, but a line has to be drawn somewhere with these costs

I'll eat my hat if that happens

I can't say I'm hopeful when teams being punished are Everton, Forest and Leicester

That's because they are single charges and can be dealt with relatively quickly. A bit like Chelsea this summer if they don't raise the funds they need by end June.

City have 115 charges IIRC. It's going to take a long time but I do think they will get a comeuppance at some point, although it won't be enough short of relegation to the national league and stripping of all their silverware over the period imo.

Even a 30 point deduction will only screw them for a single season, and they'd still be getting PL revenues.

I hear everything you’re saying…and I can understand some fans’ frustrations.
Patience….would be the word I would use here.
This project, this League is all new to Ange. It’s a step-up on all that’s gone before.
That doesn’t bother me at all, though. I’m not really into ‘experience‘ as a key metric for assessing a manager’s capability. I’m much more fascinated by their problem-solving, on the hoof.
I hold a lot of faith in Ange. He’s a super-cool character, he has presence, he has an exciting philosophy and he brings a real feel-good, unified atmosphere to a club.

I think I’m right in the belief that Ange doesn’t directly get involved in the training. He outlines what he’s seeing, what he believes in, what he wants overall.
He then instructs his coaching staff to make that happen.
And I think he’s giving these coaches enough space to figure our on-pitch conundrums out for themselves, in their own unique styles. And this might take a little extra time.
If Ange was like Conte, he would be very autocratic and take full control of everything. But that proves fruitless after a while, as coaches and players feel less and less empowered.
Ange, doing what he’s doing, is building a coaching staff that are figuring these problems out for themselves, on their terms. It may take a little longer, but the upside means that our coaching team’s self belief and sense of control rises dramatically. If each member of the coaching team feel empowered to trust their own intuition, then we‘ll have a very powerful group of people working with the players.

Patience means managing our own expectations.
It’s a bumpy ride for the first season or two, because every other team is working you out and each week they try and shut down what you’re putting in place.

But if everyone, as a whole, can keep pushing through the rough patches….and everyone as a whole, maintains that self belief, then the collective only gets stronger and stronger.
There’s no other manager I want at the club. I’m happy with what we’ve got….and so now it’s about time.
And patience.

So I’m sitting in observer mode for this next 12 months, appreciating the changes, the effort behind the scenes…and recognising how much needs to get bedded down to create solid foundations for a title-charge.
Ange has a vision…..and it’s an exciting vision….and I’m giving him a year or two to bring it to fruition.
What a brilliant post! I hadn't considered the benefits of giving autonomy to the coaching staff in the way you lay them out like that - many thanks for doing so!

CL run will help them massively and they’ve historically spent decent sums

I’d hazard a guess to greatly increase the value of the club.

It's very clear that we're forming the system Ange wants to play but still lacking quality in some positions. The system works but it breaks down in places due to lacking quality. Either young players will grow or new players will come in. We don't sign top players in their peak very often so it's always been a long game with us.
Good point. I'd like to add that even top players at the peak of their careers can still take a while to adapt to a new system so there really aren't any quick fixes no matter how much we spend.

LWOS said that we haven't scored a first half goal since the 23rd of December away at Everton.

Crazy stat if true.

Spot on.

I think we need a transformative liverpoolesque window this summer like when they signed Allison & VVD for Klopp, except for us we imo need a world class ST & RW, then sign a few back ups to improve cover for 4th CB, RB & CM and quadruple is ours next season
