News on bbc website. I hope they dont get him. I think it would be silly for me to say we should bid wouldn't it

"Mata playing for a Moyes team is like trying to use a Ferrari to plough a field."

Don't get me wrong, Mata is a superb player and, I do think United are crying out for some creativity, I don't really think this solves anything for them.

Why is he not playing week in, week out for Chelsea? Well, according to some, it's because he doesn't track back enough in comparison to Oscar, Hazard, Willian. If he is the only player United sign this window then they haven't ironed out any of their issues. Of course, the opportunity to sign someone of Mata's class from a rival doesn't come along every day. I just feel like they might be compensating for the summer window, throwing big money at one player in an attempt to divert from the real needs: at least one box to box and/or defensive midfielder, a left back and a center back.

Bad move by Chelsea in my opinon but I think Rooney will somehow be crowbared into the negotiation, either a first refusal deal or something in place for the summer. Then again, Chelsea aren't exactly the most astute when it comes to transfers, so who knows.

I'd love him at Spurs. I think he'll be great for United. If he is their only signing then I don't see them turning things around massively on the back of this

Sky sports news are reporting it as a £40m bid through a third party. Anyone care to guess how that is allowed?

I think one of Shrek or van Persie will be off at the end of the season. Kagawa is excellent but hasn't been given any opportunities under moyes, he could do just as good a job as mata given the chance.
I'd love to see them pay £35m for him, if they do it this window it doesn't actually address the areas on the pitch that need addressing, which in turn will lead to them finishing outside the top four.
Happy days....

The only thing I can think what a third party bid means, is bidding for a player but telling a club, you buy him and then we will buy him off you

Surely we could have a go for him if we have the dosh? If they'd sell to Utd then they could sell to us? It's unlikely he'd chose us over them but we do look the better side at the moment.

We have great AM's but Mata is an opportunity we can't miss out on if a deal is possible

I guess Chelsea will only sell with Rooney deal in the summer agreed...

So many people I know (and on here) are saying they don't need Mata.

That was said about Ozil and looked what happened.

It's the boost it gives the club...

This is an idiotic move on Chelsea's part. Still, if it's only 35 million that he's going for I can't see clubs like PSG and City not making a move for him as well.

Maybe United are using us as the third party but they don't know levy doesn't intend to sell to them after getting Mata:whistle:

I hoper they do buy him for that, then it's a lot less lightly they are gonna be spendingbig on what they really need.

They don't even need him though. They have Januzaj, Rooney and Kagawa who are all very good no10s. As for the Ozil argument, he hasn't even been that great for them. Flamini has made more of a difference in my eyes.

They are still shit in CM and are relying on the likes of Fellaini & Cleverley.

It'd be interesting to know what their supporters think as i know us lot would be questioning why the inadequate spine wasn't being addressed first!

Arsenal didn't *need* Ozil, yet we've all seen the galvanising effect that's had on them. It could very well happen for United, too.

Hope they don't get him.
