They can play in the Champions League but not La Liga, can't make any changes until the next transfer window. So if they can't register these players? Are they stuck in football limbo or what happens?
There isn't a wage cap per se, you can pay players whatever you want just don't offer what you can't afford. How long has there been a wage cap in La Liga? I cynically thought that La Liga did everything they could to protect Barca and Madrid, but imposing a cap on wages and non EU players (per Ally Gold) has clearly not helped.
and another
and another
They are in a not too dissimilar boat aren’t they? They’ll be left behind Madrid in years to come it’s crazy stuff.
Madrid have had issues but not even close to Barcas. They took a Covid hit like everyone else but they're in fairly decent nick now with the Bernabeu redevelopment almost completed. This is last year's report but paints a relatively healthy picture. They are in a not too dissimilar boat aren’t they?
Or selling at the top for what would be reduced tv income going forward. They are gambling on increased revenue streams.
Incredibly high risk with a global recession on its way.
did I get it wrong? they couldn't pay de jong's wages and threat to sue him if he refuses to reduce his wages???
Charming club ?
If you are to judge by the reaction of the fans, Martin Braithwaite is not a popular man at FC Barcelona.
On Sunday evening, FC Barcelona played a match against Mexican Pumas in the annual showdown before the start of LaLiga, called the Juan Gamper Trophy. Before the game, all the Barcelona players ran onto the field one by one.
Most were met with great applause - especially the newly acquired players such as Robert Lewandowski, Raphina and Andreas Christensen. But when it was the Danish striker's turn, he was greeted by a loud chorus of whistles.
He had a smile on his face as he started his entrance. However, it quickly disappeared.
It's no secret that Braithwaite looks like a finished man at Barcelona.
The negativity at the stadium may have fertile ground in the fact that Barca - according to Spanish SPORT - wants to cancel the contract, so that the Dane leaves the club clean and free, as they already have major financial problems.
But Braithwaite wants full pay for the two years he has left on his deal - which he is also entitled to.
FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta, according to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, should have said that Martin Braithwaite knows he has to find another place to play.
- Umtiti and Braithwaite? Both now understand that it is time to find another club.
Well... pay them first. Apparently you can throw money left and right for other players... ???
