I really think that in their mind, they can sell as much of the la liga TV money as they want because they think that the super league will still happen and render the La Liga money pretty much worthless. Hence why they are still pushing for it so hard

Dembele is terrorising Juventus in this friendly. Maybe the gamble will pay off.

Will other clubs see Barce potentially in their knees and hold of any SuperLeague talks or are they all desperate for a piece of the same pie I wonder.

Telegraph (paywall) ran an artical the other week about them suing the teams that withdrew from the super league (us included) for breach of contract. They expect to make big money from this.

Would you do that in your job, "Fair enough boss, I realise you're paying me way too much which is stopping you recruit new colleagues, so you can reduce my salary by 50%"?

He's already "sacrificed" by deferring a large part of his wages, but now he has every right to expect the contract to be honoured.
Why should he negotiate a new contract just because Barcelona feel he's not worth what they are currently paying?
I agree, all parties agreed to the contract it should be paid.

In reality everyone can see that level of wages are unsustainable for any club to continue paying. The pandemic just brought forward the inevitable for Barca.

If FDJ is genuinely happy at the club, I can see him reducing his contact and staying for the majority of his career. Less weekly wage but longer service at the club.

If I was FDJ watching them spend 100m on new players while struggling to pay 17m in deferred wages, negotiating a lower contract would be the last thing on my mind.

In a normal world that would be the case.

in this scenario everyone is watching to see what happens. This club seems to be lurching from one crisis to another and even when trying to do the right things gets the back up of key people.

i guess you can’t make an omelette without breaking some eggs.

FWIW I think FDJ stays.

Surely by not paying players their full salary they are in breach of employment law and La Liga/UEFA rules??

Are they goading UEFA to kick them out of the CL to move the Super League closer and blame UEFA?

It feels like they are signing lots of players. Their squad must be huge!

Does make you wonder. They just keep signing players despite not being able to register them to play due to the Spanish salary cap. They are properly taking the piss.

The players as far as I’m aware agreed to it as they’ve essentially just delayed salary for a period of time.

I read that they still owe messi 50 million euros in deferred salary. You would have thought that they would have used their economic levers to pay down some of the debt ?‍♂️
