You can certainly argue that he should've won more trophies with Barcelona and Bayern, but remember that he left the clubs in perfect condition. It's hardly a coincidence that Barcelona went on to be the best team in Europe post LVG, and that Bayern now are experiencing the same.

The reason why I want LVG more than any other is not only because I think he'll do well, but also because I believe he'll build the foundations of something great. If he finishes the building himself or lets someone else take over doesn't matter that much I think.

Good post and this should really be the focus as far as the appointment of LVG is concerned, the legacy he'll create and leave.

We may not get an immediate impact, but for sure we will get structure and progression.

What does that clueless muppet Gullit know anyway?

Very close friends with LVG mate. He spouted about us meeting him before anyone else said. I wouldn't be surprised if he was going to be part of the set up either but i think he is right in it being a done deal.

What you also forgot to add was Xavi or Iniesta came out and said that he laid the foundations in how the club play there 'tikka-takka' football now and he was one of the best coaches he has ever played under and would with him again. So he can't be too bad as you say :D

Remember that mourinho learned from and styled himself on van gaal.
Well to a degree. He got one of his first gigs working under Van Gaal but stylistically they couldn't be further apart.

Mourinho is a pragmatic coach which is particularly able to get the most out of players. Van Gaal is more ideological he wants his teams to play in a very attacking way and makes the team have to adapt to that. He is also quite famous to not be particularly kind to those who disagree with him and as history in getting into large disputes with people in charge of the club.

Van Gaal, however, is one of the finest coaches in the game. What he did at Ajax and AZ was unbelievable. And was also a success at Bayern and Barca (the first time) both these teams at the time were no way close to the level they are now, it must be remembered, particularly Barca who were without a trophy in 4 years.

Realistically he is a manager which will take time to see his work pay off, only in Bayern was this not the case. The first season would be mostly adaptation from the players into the new style while success may well come in the 2nd or even 3rd season. We must therefore make sure he is willing to engage in an at least 3 year project and trust on it. Levy will have to be patient, the fans may also have to be patient and the players have to be up for working very hard. Even so, Van Gaal comes with an established reputation so tottenham will hopefully be patient with him. As he would present the first manager to manage Tottenham with such a reputation, having won a champions league as well as a league title in every team he has managed.

Please, please, please let this be true. Cannot take much more of Tim masquerading as our football manager any longer...

Sorry guys but this is nothing new, it's just the same story we got when AVB got sacked. It's just clickbait.

This is what he said:
"I know for sure the chairman of Tottenham was at Van Gaal's house. I think it's a done deal, but you never know."

That's the problem of managing the big clubs in those leagues. The titles won with Barca and Bayern in those years were pretty much a minimum.

Which means the most impressive trophies remain with Ajax, but they were a while ago now.

I'm certainly not against LVG, but we need to be careful about bugging up any manager.

My first choice in all honesty would have been Klopp, but I will not be disappointed if LVG signs.

True enough, e has done well in the 'easy' leagues Netherlands and Spain, obviously the Bundesliga is a different matter but Bayern are the biggest and the best club so not really comparable to us.

Nothing new here at all for me. The meeting is very old news and the general consensus for a while has been that Van Gaal is joining, especially amongst the Dutch media. Gullit is just taking all this and presenting it as his own expert opinion.
