CB options of Cuti (Sanchez) and VDV (Kelly) is decent, way better than what we had last year.
Yep. Not perfect by any stretch. But workable this season. Dav gone next and no excuse for not getting another real CB that window.

but seems we are a long way off from Kelly at the moment. Need movement quick if it’s going to happen

I was unsurprised by the bid until it turned out he's on an expiring contract! Going above 20m is silly money!

I would definitely rather keep Dier and £20m+ for one season, then try for him on a free and get eg an 80m player instead of a 60m player.

I just heard from a Bournemouth fan on social media. He said Lloyd has all the attributes to be great, but he so inconsistent and wouldn't mind selling him.

Comparing him to Ake. He said with Ake you could see he was WC, and probably the best player to ever play for Bournemouth, whereas Lloyd is probably the 10th best player in the squad atm, which is pretty damning.

Maybe a mental issue.

He also said Bournemouth fans, to a man, all thought Mings was shit, but Villa fans love him, so maybe a change of scenery could help fulfil his potential.

I've softened a bit on this one - can see where he could be cover/potential upgrade to LCB/LB. The interesting bit here is that seems to be moving forward *alongside* Johnson/Gallagher.

I wonder if is the one that could unlock a deadline day surprise. If we manage to bring in 3 HGs (when most of us were holding out hope for 1-2), move PEH, Lloris, and at least one CB, does this open the door for a surprise (maybe at FW)? At a minimum it would give us a ton more flexibility in January. This would assume some degree of competence in executing deals in a timely manner, which is asking a lot given our track record.

Anyways, I'm ok with a young homegrown LCB with potential as cover is an upgrade over our current bunch, though our next CB signing has to be someone who can force his way into a rotation w/ Romero + VDV (which we will need if we have Europe next year).

Has Ekitike gone anywhere yet?

Just messaged my Bournemouth supporting mate to see what he says about Kelly. This was his reply….

“He can be quality, plays either centre back or on left. Liverpool were sniffing about a year or so ago. Recently though he's looked a little lost, I really thought he would become an international and he was highly rated but he's struggled a bit. On his day he is really good though, think its potentially confidence after a couple of injuries. I would be sorry to see him go, but he's not an automatic starter for us anymore”

Only thing to factor in when people say that we’d be clogging our squad up by signing him is this:
He’s hg for us, but also counts for everyone else in the PL too.
So other teams with a similar need next season may find him useful too

Free transfer next summer or significant reduction in transfer fee in January

If really a long term target it’s only a few more weeks to get him

Mate: “Where did you go over the summer holidays?”

Me: “Spurs Community.”

Mate: “Refreshing?”

Me: “Every 5 minutes for 3 months.

Need a holiday, now. 😂

Initially I was against this link when it first surfaced. To go from Tapsoba etc to Kelly seemed disappointing but the more I think about it the more I think he could be our Ake. Comfortable with the ball, can play CB and LB. Also a plus point with him being HG and probably being cheap in Jan or free in the summer.

Yeah another point is his pace, he clocked the same top speed as VDV I think. 36.50 kph.

Playing well here against Chelscum today. Has a bit of pace, can play a bit and reads the game well. Can totally see why we were interested. As a back up for the LCB position we could do a lot worse.

Finished the game playing LB & not doing a bad job there either.

I watched him really closely and he was MOTM for me. Retained possession really well (I can only think of one misplaced pass in to the strikers feet), read the game and made numerous interceptions, took up very good positions defensively when outnumbered against the counter attack. Very mature performance.

If he comes to compete at CB, we'll have 3 CBs you'd be happy to see starting and with Phillips pushing on behind them. We'd go from nearly bereft to set in just two windows
