Can't be bothered to repeat the same old points, but, I still think a top keeper would have saved Cahill's strike. Gomes definitely would have done.
I think that's optimistic as it was:

1- crushed by Cahill
2- and deflected on its way in

I would look at Gallas' "clearance" that set the shot up like a training ground play for that goal more than a keeper's possibility to save it...

But what the hey, put Lloris in, maybe he can make up for Gallas in the next match against top competition...

I won't even go down that road that speculates on all the ridiculous gaffs that Gomes would've committed throughout the game...

No huge lovefest from me regarding Friedel, but he's been more effective for Spurs than Gomes IMHO,... and the results bear themselves out.

COYS!!! :chicken:

(see how I disagreed respectfully without dinging Apprentice's rep? just sayin')

Is this the same Gomes that holds the record for the most clean sheets in a season for spurs? And the same Gomes who kept us in key games when we did actually qualify for the champions league?

Gomes has been a much better keeper than Friedel.

Never rated him and I don't get the positivity from some spurs fans.

I was in Bilbao last week and saw the Spain v France game on the box. Lloris was so good he deserved his own thread for that performance alone, it was good to see him save a Fibreglass penalty.
But yes I can see why Villas Boas is being cautious with him.

Having conceded 4 goals at home two of Chelsea's goals were suspect Lloris should be promoted to No.1 just my opinion.

I have to agree that, despite the deflection, I thought Lloris would've produced a save for the Cahill goal, and had a good go at the one that went in the corner. I'm still very upbeat after yesterday, but I want Lloris and Adebayor to get given starts asap

Freidel hasn't kept a clean sheet all season
Doesn't come of his line

From what I've seen of Lloris in the two games he played, he commanded the area well.

We need to get him into the first team ASAP

Having played Lloris ahead of of Friedel once, in which game he kept another clean sheet
why not carry on and then we could all get on with our lives.

Fairly certain we kept the most clean sheets in the league for 25 yrs last season... with Brad in goal, still want Lloris playing now but Brad last season was more reliable than Gomes ever was..

It's not about who is a better keeper, or even about how well they performed in their last games - it's about respect.

In my opinion AVB is handling this well. By all accounts Brad is a valued, and popular member of the squad. He's hardly put a foot wrong this season...even if his shortcomings compared to Lloris might mean conceding goals that Lloris might have saved, but more importantly AVB is showing the whole squad that he's respecting the players he's inherited from Harry.

I want to see Lloris in goal as soon as possible, as he looks like a significantly better keeper, but in the long term I believe the way AVB is dealing with this will benefit the mood, confidence, and mutual respect of the whole team.

AVB was handling it well until he restored Friedel Saturday for this reason.

At least Gallas actually managed to touch the ball. More than can be said for Friedel.

Nice situation to be in isn't it ?

Arguing whether Loris or Friedel should start ?

And to think we've got Cudicini if something should happen to the other two .

If Friedel had of been half as bad as some of you were suggesting he would have been replaced by Loris immediately - and what would you have said then if Loris had a bad match ?

Way , way over reactionary especially when all the other 10 players were hopeless in the first half .

It's all politics at the end of the day.

AVB knows that Friedel hasn't really done too much wrong, and that Lloris is by far the superior keeper. However, Lloris has a bedding in period - language, culture etc, Friedel doesn't.

Had AVB gone with Lloris and we still got dicked, Lloris would have untold pressure heaped up[on him, by the typical inpatient spurs fan - I mean you only need to look at Kyle Walkers twitter account to see how much of a fuckwit fanbase we attract.

Lloris would have been castrated before he'd even got his wanger out.

Quite a clever play by AVB in my opinion, stick with Friedel, risk isn't that great, against a very on form Chelsea team, who have some serious attacking intent - I can't see many teams getting near them if they keep those players fit.

As for the goals, I don't blame Friedel for any of them completely, but he could have done better. He should have got to the first one, that's a pretty basic lift your arm straight up as quickly as possible shot - something I'm pretty confident I could saved, even though it was hit with some force :)

The goal that I thought he might've done better was when he stood still as a low ball went into the bottom corner.

Good points on the politics etc... but I really wish Lloris was starting from now on

It's true, but it's a dainty balancing act as he doesn't want to lose the fans either. So there's a very delicate tipping point and his timing has to be perfect. Like...now!:)

The opportunity has presented itself; if he was waiting for a window, it just opened....
