With two minutes remaining, the lights have gone out in the Ajaccio vs PSG game.

PSG two points from two games. Trailing Marseille, Lyon and Bordeaux. A lot of people, myself included, thought this season was a foregone conclusion. The have Bordeaux and Lille away coming up next as well.

Early doors, but lights out already for them? (yes shit pun)

PSG are stuttering then. I would say it's just a matter of time before they gel and win the league comfortably.

That's how it's mean to go anyway.

Prior to this season I'd never heard of Marco Verratti.

He looks like a great prospect, good passer, good composure, demands the ball from his team mates and is strong on the ball.

He's got an assist tonight, lovely finish by Pastore.

and now Ibrahimovic scores. Great through pass by Pastore to Menez who breaks offside trap, feeds Ibrahimovic with a perfect low cross down the middle for Ibrahimovic to tap in. Defence went to sleep there

So that's 5 in 5 for Ibra. Watched him his whole career and never understood the overrated tag, was immense tonight. Probably the best hold up CF in world football, brings so much to a team and scores goals.

Verratti was excellent tonight, easily PSG's best player, but that score flattered them enormously. The stats say PSG had 54% of the ball but I find that an amazing stat that doesn't seem to represent what I watched. Toulouse seemed to have at least as much if not more of the ball and passed it around pretty well. Capoue was good, like a Huddelstone that can actually move as well, and Didot is quite a clever, technical player but Toulouse are very limited by the rest of the players ahead of the defence, who lack intelligence, strength and guile. Sissoko was awful.

I had heard all the rumours of where Verratti was going to end up during the Summer but can't confess to watching too much Serie B football. He must have absolutely bossed that league last season for Pescara. His eye for a pass looks exquisite and he also puts himself about, very good signing for PSG.

Great first-half. Didn't get Ancelotti's subs whatsoever. PSG ended the game with 4 fulbacks, 2 CBs and 2 DMs on the pitch. Starved Ibra of any service.

I was in Lille today to watch them dick Montpelier 4-1.
Will start by saying I am almost completely ignorant of french football and have always considered Ligue 1 to be a bit of a waste of time - nothing more than a farm for the premier league but today has completely changed my opinion it was an absolutely
fantastic day, 30 euros on the ferry split 3 ways, 15 euros for a ticket to the game. We sat right on the back row of the north west curve the view was decent though we couldn't see any of the jumbotron as a gantry was obstructing our view - no biggy!.
The stadium was immense, the atmosphere was excellent. - my friends and i were well received, all the Lille fans around us were loving how into it all we were. People were actually coming over for a chat at half time asking us how we found everything, I have never experienced anything like this a football game before.

Now onto my main focus during the game Bellhanda
I was excited about seeing a player we had been linked to but if today a normal day at the office for him Arsenal are welcome to him. He showed a flash of class nutmegging Lille's appalling right-back. He then spent the rest of his time on the pitch looking largely anonymous until he was sent off for a shocking tackle around the 43 minute mark.
I do not think today was the best game for him to be judged on as it was all one way traffic after his early flourish. I look forward to seeing what all the fuss is about as i watch more ligue 1.

Montpelier were on the whole rubbish but they had two players who caught my eye.

Rémy Cabella who was playing right wing. Fast, fantastic close control, not scared to take people on everything we like in a winger at Tottenham really.

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa played left back today. strong and fast I noticed him initially because he got caught out pushing too high up the pitch but he recovered superbly chasing down the Lille attacker and robustly dispossessing him.

On to Lille, they had an easy game today so this is certainly a glossy outlook of their key players

Marvin Martin looked effective he carried out duties like tackling and tracking back and played simple passes. He always looked like he had space to move in to which for me is the sign of a decent midfielder. I think he may of set up roux's 2nd goal with a defence splitting pass. Lille got him for 10m euros and he looked like he was worth every penny.

Dimitri Payet was immense in the first half his through balls were unreal but he seemed to take his foot off the gas in the second half and the chap i was sitting next to said this was more like the Payet they were used to.

The last player who looked up to it was Ryan Mendes he had a little cameo and was involved in all the latter attacks. He is described as a winger and yes at kick offs he could be found in a wide-ish position but after the first kick his position was anyone's guess - he popped up on the left, on the right, through the middle but looked a threat at all times bagging himself a goal in the process. Whilst i was looking up names to write this i also discovered he is just 22. I cannot wait to see if he is always such a menace!

Lille have gained a new supporter will be looking to go again soon and will certainly give some other french games a chance on tv.

Made another trip to Lille this week to watch them in action against OGC Nice.

it was not the experience the first game was partially because of the weather partially because of the african cup of nations robbing Kalou and Mendes.
The weather in France was dreadful, as soon as we got off the boat we knew it was going to be a fun day, it got progressively worse and as a consequence the stadium was half empty. Approx 38000 tickets were sold but I reckon even less showed up to the stadium. The stadium being empty did have its plus points we moved from our fantastic cheap seats (10 Euros) in the North west curve to the 50 Euro seats in the west stand - result. the negatives were the atmosphere suffered despite the best efforts of hardcore support in the Tribune Nord.

Onto the game! as previously said Kalou and Ryan Mendes who i was enamored with after my last visit were missing from Lille and they really suffered from a lack of width in the first half despite this they did create several chances. Lille really should of capitalised on Nice's slow start. To my chagrin Payet found himself in a one on one situation and instead of slotting it in the back of the net decided to try and round the keeper at his near post. Had he of beaten the goalie i'm pretty sure he would of missed as the angle would of been too tight. He seems to make bad choices with alarming regularity which is a shame as he undeniably has talent.
One of the few first half positives was Lilles ability to break up play, When the ref wasn't blowing his whistle indiscriminately and ruining the flow of the game Idrissa Gueye was a phenomenon, his anticipation was brilliant and if he didn't make the interception he would put in a bone crunching tackle really cannot say enough about how impressive this lad was hopefully will see him play again next month.
The Second half was split into 2 defined parts Lille dominated in the first 15/20 minutes they created more chances most notably Nolan Roux being caught offside and Marvin Martin missing a tap in from point blank range. My reasoning for this was that the fullbacks had been asked to overlap whereas in the first half the left back Digne rarely ventured forward However this and their inability to finish gilt edge chances proved to be the undoing of Lille.
In the 77th minute Renato Civelli got up above the lille defence and headed home the first goal of the game. Lille Pushed on But they were undone again in the 85th minute by Neal Maulbay.

the game finished 0-2

Standout players both good and bad

Lille

Idrissa Gueye - 23 Senegalese DM was outstanding did not put a foot wrong all game and frequently covered for........

Aurelien Chedjou -27 Cameroonian CB was lille's captain today and was like jekyll and hyde. One one hand made a few key interceptions he is very calm on the ball and his distribution was decent but he seems unable to close down attackers preferring to invite either the shot or his CB partner to do the closing down. he got worse as the game went on and if he wasnt booked he was lucky to of not been.

Lucas Digne - 19 French LB anonymous in the first half. the second half saw the best in this young full back went on some driving runs and was beating players regularly with speed, strength and good close control.

OGC Nice

Didier Digard - 26 French CM of Middlesborough fame bossed the second half instrumental in OGC's attacks and excellent at stopping Lille's. A shame injuries blighted his time in england.

Jeremy Pied - 23 French Winger I had to google this chaps position as he seemed to move across the whole midfield creating space and always looking to collect the ball he was extremely busy and his direct running and good passing was a highlight of OGC's game

Valentin Esseric - 20 French AM on loan from Monaco. Valentin had an unimpressive game in terms of tangible results. He scored no goals, made no assists and i doubt his pass completion ratio would've been impressive. What he did was continuously make fantastic runs stretching the lille back 4. Could be an amazing player.

Travel
Last time i went i parked near the old stadium and got a bus to the new one which was great except, trying to get on a bus to get back to the car was a nightmare. This time the free buses were not running because of the snow so we walked 5 minutes to the metro station jumped the train then walked another 5 minutes to the stadium.
Whilst the journey back was busy still it was much more organised than the buses and we got back to our car quicker sadly this did not prevent us missing our ferry :D
Probably wont go to another sunday game as literally nothing but Mcdonalds and Kebab shops are open. I settled for a Mcdonalds in the end as the ticket has a buy a big mac meal get an additional big mac for free offer - MEGAMAC.

All in all another good game and I'm hoping to either see Bordeaux or Evian next month

Cheeky link to the highlights

I can't watch ligue 1 in nz - did you notice anything from neal maupay apart from the goal? Only 16 and has scored a couple, so perhaps one to keep an eye on.

Sadly not he came on as a sub in the 79th minute so had very little time to register with me.
I don't know anyone except the main Lille players atm so I'm rarely looking out for individuals on the away team, its quite nice in a way as i'm not deceived by reputations, i come home with a list of shirt numbers and look them all up online :) I had no idea he was 16!

thanks for commenting btw. no one wants to talk bout ligue 1
