Always nice to hear some words of wisdom from England legend Stewart Downing.
I wish we had more players like Stewart Downing. Many a game goes by where I watch us and think "if only we had some more brain-melting mediocrity to run around doing nothing of any note."

Stewart Downing doesn't strike me as the most intelligent and self-aware of men.
For instance, if my name was an anagram of 'Twat on Reds' wing' and I was, by trade, a winger, I might have second thoughts about signing for Liverpool. Not Stewart.
Similarly, if I'd somehow secured 35 caps for my country as a left-winger / attacking midfielder and never scored, I might keep my opinions to myself in case some smart arse opposition fans pointed out my obvious limitations. Not Stewart.
And, again, if I had commanded approximately £35m in transfer fees during my less-than-stellar playing career, then I might be a tad careful about implying that spending money doesn't equate to success. Not Stewart.

Anyway its a compliment really, they are just sniping at a team that is better than them. Our players do it about Arsenal all the time only for us to finish behind them once more.

Do well to remember, net, they have outspent us for a while now. Also worth noting that we are clearly in a transitional period, Pochs first season etc and they are operating at the very peak of the powers
Throw in the fact we have played about a dozen games more than them this season already, their two better players belong to other clubs, and we struggled a little earlier in the campaign due to our new style, all while they enjoyed their best season for a generation and we are still ahead of them...then maybe Downing needs to rethink he's opinion!

Really don't believe so. Doesn't make any sense. They are are an acceptable league position and his contract is up in the summer.

Technically we have spent a lot of money, more than them. But on the flip side, we've had good players that we got loads of money for, compared to them monkeys.
My bad, I forgot Carroll is worth in the £70million bracket now!
