If them letting Jones off shuts them the fuck up about the offside then it’s a price I’m willing to pay. I suspect that’s what Liverpool are up to with the appeal.
It could just as easily have the opposite effect. Rescinding the red would be seen as an admission that VAR got 2 huge decisions wrong to Liverpool's detriment, adding further fuel to their conspiracy theory fire.

Fair enough, fuck em either way. It’s a straight red. I thought so in the stadium at the time and it looks bad at whatever speed it is shown at. If anything they should have the book thrown at them for failing to control their players.

Jeez, if they let Jones off the grizzling and conspiracy bollocks would ramp up 10x. It's a straight red card for a dangerous tackle - end of.

Yes, I hope they do appeal cos it'll embarrass them further.

How funny would it be if the appeal was rejected and they added an extra game onto the suspension...
I think it is almost certain to be rejected however I think they only add an extra game if the appeal is seen as frivolous and there clearly is an argument (wrongly in my view) that it could have been a yellow.

Am I the only one that finds nothing funny about Liverpool?

Their fanbase and their club itself acts as if it has, at least, severe psychological problems or is actually on the spectrum.

So on one hand it is wicked to mock the afflicted etc. But I feel a real unease whenever we play them. It's like someone who is mentally unwell and agitated getting into an elevator with you. I'm so glad when those matches are out of the way and we don't have to deal with them again.

They'll escalate any event to a dangerous level which can, and has, caused physical (attacking buses), psychological (racist abuse) or societal damage (their deleterious t-shirt campaigns). And this is compounded by the stroke they have with the media and then by extension the authorities. It's like a Jeremy Kyle guest whose uncle is lord of the manor. It's an ongoing nightmare.

Another day of debate on BBC about all this. There is no way it would be entertained had it been any other club whinging. The fact that they've appealed the red card is really pathetic as it wasn't like it wasn't a bad foul or a clear and obvious error. The talk about showing the still image is just a farce. For the penalty against Cuti, the ref was shown the handball and not the push on Maddison beforehand, where is our national campaign? Honestly believe they've appealed the red as they feel they're entitled to some sort of retribution, but in the unlikely event that it did prove successful, would set an even worse precedent IMO.

The VAR is instructed to first show an image of the moment of contact, whether that's a handball, a bad foul or whatever.
Its exactly what they should be showing, Carragher is talking out of his arse.

I was thinking about it all last night on the back of the club’s statement and hearing several commentators be critical of their wording and tone. My conclusion/lingering feeling about them is this:

Liverpool and Man Utd are the two biggest clubs in British football and the two biggest clubs in the most high profile domestic league in the world. They each have huge reach via their massive global fanbases, their huge representation in the media via ex-players, and the number of fans they have who hold prominent roles in the football media (eg the Phil McNulty’s of this world). That gives them significant influence over the football community. I don’t mean in a corrupt way, but rather by setting agendas and narratives on a particular path. That’s before you factor in the more cynical aspect of otherwise objective journalists and broadcasters pandering to those clubs as it boosts clicks/views etc and creates monetary gain for them/their employers.

The difference (in my opinion) between Liverpool and Utd, is that at an entity level Man Utd have in the past appeared mindful of the responsibility that comes with that level of influence. They’ve got some big things wrong recently but even then it seems that they are mindful of how things look and how they might shape the landscape around them.

Liverpool, in contrast, invariably appear to behave recklessly with regards to how they use that influence. The myopic self-interest never stops. The statement they put out on Sunday was exactly that - reckless. A reckless attempt to wield their huge influence in the face of bad luck, being ready and willing to cause major ramifications for the wider game in the hope it might get them an extra point or 3.

The VAR seriously fucked up on Saturday, but it is imperative that the PGMOL stand up to them and are backed by the authorities in doing so. Otherwise LFC will only be encouraged to throw their weight around with even greater reckless abandon, while all the time claiming any resistance is some wild conspiracy against them.

You would have thought after Hillsborough the one club around with a bit of perspective about a bloody football match would be Liverpool.

100% agree about Carragher and I fully understand the VAR display approach as its been discussed so often since Saturday. Was more making the point that we were aggrieved by it, but by the following day had moved on.

Makes you wonder how they would have reacted if the CL final handball went against them and we ended up winning.

Yeah, you'd hope so, wouldn't you? But I've seen Liverpool fans hoping that the fact that their club put a tweet out condemning the racist abuse doesn't distract from the "real issue" of the result of a football match.
