As nauseating as it is to hear about "European nights under the lights" at Anfield....it's not a myth. Happened too many times for it to be a coincidence. Not simply just winning games but the way it happens - epic comebacks, steamrolling top opposition. How many times did Ferguson's United hammer top European opposition? They were the top side in England for 20 years while Liverpool were in a cycle of mediocrity yet it's probably Liverpool who have made more memorable European history.
For me it comes down to mindset. We laugh and mock their fawning histrionics but perhaps it is exactly that self-belief larger than the universe that absorbs the place on nights like last night. Like a self-fulfilling prophecy - their fans were thinking it's possible, the media were not ruling them out, Klopp was optimistic. What other club going into a second leg 3-0 down with arguably the greatest ever player coming to town believes they have a chance?
Got a call from the old man today, telling me that the dippers were camped outside the Barca fans’ hotels letting off fireworks all night. Can anyone confirm this?
Fuck I hope Ajax win. I can't even imagine how obnoxious a Spurs final would be.
It's really win-win for us.
Spurs can't handle us, because they've never been in this position before.
Ajax are probably just a step behind where they need to be. They remind me of Alaves in 01 - a good team of capable technical players up against a team that's a bit battle hardened who will do the necessary on the day.
I think if it's Spurs, we win it comfortably on the scoreboard.
If it's Ajax, we win it, but they'll take the game to us and it could be a tight one but experience will win out.
Spurs just don't have a Champions League Final aesthetic, they don't belong there.
Ajax will probably be more challenging opponents, but I'd rather play them in the final as they are a proper European Giant worthy of doing battle on the biggest stage. They deserve to make the final after how they have performed in the competition this season and I think they will get the result they need.
Liverpool 3 - Ajax 1 would be my prediction for the final.
So Liverpool were bloody brilliant last night, only a fool would argue otherwise, but this...THIS...this is why we need to get to that final and put a stop to all this...pleeeaaaaaaasssssseeeeee football gods...please...
There is so much more of this gobshite over on RAWK but I found myself getting a bit cross so left quickly...

Enough of the love in, time to get this back on track. Just heard a pool fan say "it's the type of European night that ONLY happens at Anfield"
Roma did the same thing to Barcelona last year.
Barcelona had an incredible comeback against PSG a few years ago.
I know I'm bias, but i think the Spurs City game had more drama.
What does the Queen Mother do round about March?

TBH I don't care what they say about Anfield. In fact I've always been impressed with their support. What bothers me the most about Liverpool is, as has been mentioned before, the way that everyone hypes Anfield as the pinnacle of atmospheres. I've been to football games in Germany, Sweden, Argentina, Scotland and the Netherlands that all had an equally electric atmosphere in a mid-season league game as Anfield had against Barcelona.
I'm not denying the atmosphere was great the day before yesterday, but it's nothing special. Even the Emirates would've been rocking under those conditions. Also, even when Liverpool were thumping Barcelona 4-0 in a CL semi, (credit where it's due, they were amazing), they had periods of silence in the stadium. In contrast, Ajax's stadium yesterday was roaring from the first whistle until Moura's last goal, but no one talks about their stadium the way they talk about Anfield.
I wouldn't put all this hype on the Liverpool supporters if it weren't for the fact that they buy in to it more than anyone. Lots of them literally think they have the stadium with the best atmosphere in the world. The fact is that on a global, or even on a European level, they are bang on average. And compared to English teams, there are a bunch of clubs that are on par with them in terms of atmosphere.
It's like that John Lennon quote when asked whether Ringo Starr was the best drummer in the world: "He's not even the best drummer in The Beatles".
The reason they beat Barcelona 4-0 is that the team played unreal football. Any other team in any other stadium that played the way that team played on Tuesday would've beaten Barca too.
Right, last night was brilliant and I fully take my hat off to them and am fully prepared to give them credit where credit's due.
I think the difference with Man Utd is, they always used to get bigged up all the time, but they were dominating domestic football and competing on a European level as well i.e. they deserved to be getting bigged up. Whereas with Liverpool you have this fawning attitude in the media even back when they were finishing 6th/7th/8th and at the start of the next season they'd be talked about as potential title challengers every year without fail even if they'd finished 7th the year before etc. The trouble with that is, that it's a bit of a boy who cried wolf scenario where everyone's so sick of people fawning over them all season long every season, that when they genuinely do something special and deserve the plaudits, it's hard to get behind them because I'm so sick of them.
