Agree, sports washing is right in the public eye right now. They'll be far more careful who they allow to come in for sure.
Surely questions have to be asked about the people who waved these takeovers through. It’s taken the bombing and invasion of a country and the deaths of innocent people, for government and footballing authorities to suddenly decide to shine a light. The greed and ugliness of the game laid bare.

Looks like things are starting to move. This line from one of those offered the chance to buy made me chuckle (although it just highlights how they have achieved their success over the past 20 years and how unsustainable it has been....if that matters anymore)....

“I and three other people received an offer on Tuesday to buy Chelsea from Abramovich. I have to wait four to five days now. Abramovich is currently asking far too much. You know, Chelsea owe him £2bn. But Chelsea has no money. As of today, we don’t know the exact selling price.”

Buying Chelsea is not easy. You have the price of the club, the money owed to abramovich and the stadium will have to rebuilt at some point and that would cost close to £2 billion if they started today.

even with the price ENIC would want it’s cheaper to buy us. You’d already have world class facilities and all you’d need is a decent transfer fund to get us winning things, which is certainly cheaper and less hassle than paying Abramovich off for his £1.5 bn loan and the cost of a stadium rebuild

All that before you even consider the possibility that the whole deal ends up frozen by potential sanctions.

Yes that's it will the government let the deal go through. I imagine Roman will agree to sell for the price of what the club owes him so he can break even and run. But will he be able to push that through.

The guy being linked with Chelsea "only" has a worth of just over £4 billion. He's not going to risk half his fortune on buying Chelsea outright. Whoever wants to buy them, like with us, is going to have to heavily leverage to get the club unless its another oil baron/sheik with money to burn.

Chelsea are a self sufficient club - dont think they are as bank rolled as they used to be.

Yes and no. Abramovic still underwrites their losses and props them up when needed. As soon as their is a hint that his Chelsea side is in decline he turns on the tap and spends again to take them back to the top. They can basically make decisions without having to consider the financial repercussions which allows them to be aggressive with their transfer policy. They can afford to gamble knowing that if it goes wrong they won't be penalised financially like other clubs as Abramovic and not the club will take the hit.

Also, we don't know how much they spend which isn't on the books. They pay their youth players considerable amounts and it wouldn't surprise me if there is some dodgy dealings going on when attracting these players.

You've got to be of pretty low moral standing if you want to help Abramovich out...if his contacts with Putin are true, haven't you?

Could one of the potential purchasers just be a front for Putin's money too?

I could say I was self sufficient. But if one of my credit cards was maxed out to the tune of £1.5b that might catch up on me.

Ok that makes sense. I just thought someone when they buy the club they also buy the loan and the debt if any.

It will be interesting to see what happens though but I just think it wont have too many ramifications although im wishing it will

We're dealing in hypotheticals at the minute but if a new owner comes in and runs them under a sustainable model then they pretty much become a Liverpool/Arsenal financially. Get it right like Liverpool and they will have success but get it wrong as Arsenal have over the last decade or so and they will slip down the pecking order. The important thing for me in this scenario is it becomes a far more even fight between ourselves and Chelsea.

Right now it’s like a game of poker where they have a big stack and unlimited buy ins and therefore will always come out on top eventually. Take away that safety blanket and it becomes a game of skill and will be decided on whoever plays their hands better.

Without wishing to make this too political......Keir Starmer now calling for sanctions against Abramovich: ''Keir Starmer says the Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is a person of interest to the Home Office because his links to corrupt practices'.

Genuinely no idea where people are getting this idea they are self sufficient from. He’s increased loan by £350m in last 4 years. In 2017 alone he increased it by over £200m. And in last 10 years it’s increased by £800m. That’s strangest self sufficient model I’ve ever seen. As long as they don’t have to pay back the loan from this point they are self sufficient to the point they won’t go bust. But days of challenging for title and CL will be over. If they are lucky can hang around top 4.
