I'd agree with that. He was an good and exciting player, and his defensive contribution was under-rated but he doesn't make the "legend" category for me.

That takes something more, like, an added x-factor. Maybe incredible talent but sometimes it's just the pure passion they show for the club.

I'd class Ledders as a legend, obviously, along with many of the older players like Hoddle and Mabs.
I'm still not really sure on Bale because even though he was amazing, the way he left, left a bitter taste.
Ginola gets legend status for me too because he was a shining light at a bad time and that was the time I used to be able to get to games regularly.

I'd actually class Freund as a minor legend too. He gave his all and while he wasn't with us for long, he developed a real affinity with the club and supporters.
Probably Rafa falls into that bracket too.
Can't see the rationale for Ginola being in and Bale out of your list. Both were great to watch and yes Daaaviiid was the best of a bad bunch but so was Bale. In his last few seasons he dragged us through games scoring or making the winner time and time again and without him our first dip into the champions league would have been a very damp squib. I genuinely think his performances made Spurs grow their aspirations to be the club they are today and probably cemented a large group of young fans.

As for Lennon, good luck to him. He was good for us but not quite the level needed to elevate us further (no end product being an issue) and the end was a bit sad but frankly there was better to come. With AC Milan coming down the road i will always remember him and Crouchy at the San Siro in what was then a very unlikely result.

Any ex player(especially a foreign player) that brings his kids to games and sits in with the fans deserves some degree of legendary status in my book.
A player that strips to his pants on the pitch, while throwing all of his kit into the crowd too! ?
Then there was the Roy Keane moment where he ran towards him, fist raised, only to wheel off and run away. That made me laugh soo much.

I'm not sure that I can even explain it myself really.
Bale was a wonderful player and gave us some truly magical moments, moreso than Daveed but for me, there just wasn't quite that connection there.

I guess that who's viewed as a club legend is totally a personal thing.
It's about who we, as individuals, connect with a player.
It also depends on the circumstances that they leave us.

I think you are remembering it wrong.

If we didn't have Bale, we would have still finished in the top 8. There were 2 seasons that, if we didn't have Ginola, we genuinely could have been (and 1 season probably would have been) relegated.

Could say the same thing about Robbie Keane. Not that I’m suggesting that he was on Ginola’s level and well aware that leaving for Liverpool tarnished his rep with fans.

However, the point still stands.

I loved him, I always felt he started a season unplayable, so fast it was insane.

He would get injured and never get his confidence back at running at players till the following season.

He was a great defender as well, shame he wasn’t more killer in front of goal.

He was actually a pretty good finisher in the penalty area. Just unfortunately had the shot power of an 8 year old :D…..

One of my favourite Spurs players though for sure. As others have said, proper “bums off seat” player.

He also bailed Walker out on numerous occasions.

Aaron Lennon brackets a good time in my life. Mid 20s and carefree

was there for his debut and was the only good thing about the day given we lost 2-0 to Chelsea and Drogba bullied us.

was there in the San Siro and had grown men crying around me.

The 4-4 game was a great day. Mad night out after

Anyway self indulgent post but strange to see a player I associate with a great time / era calling it a day

It’s kind of clear right

When the player loves the club and buys into the fan base it’s reciprocated especially if he is either one of a) individually blessed talent b) Hard man lunatic that leaves it all on the pitch

Bale, Modric, Berbatov we’re some of the most talented players I’ve ever seen but clearly we were just a point in their careers and once they left the relationship with the fans had run it’s course

Yes mate, that's exactly it.
It's players that have left a mark on us, and we've make a mark on them too.

I'd also class BMJ as a legend because he got us and we got him. I still love that man and there aren't too many managers that I feel that way about.

I dont remember any controversy surrounding him and he was good for us.
However (and forutnately for us) it feels like he wasn't that ambitious, or maybe he just knew his place? His game hardly evolved during his time with us. He wasn't a clean striker of the ball and wasn't tricky. I felt he could have been a better player.

Seem to remember a long spell where he'd have his opposing full back on a booking within 15 mins of ko. Every game. ?

Who gives a fuck about hearsay off the pitch...

On the pitch he was electric.

Remember going over to watch us against Liverpool mid week under the lights...2012.

Bale and Lennon show on the wings ripped them a new one that first half.

An absolute joy to watch this guy play for us, always a threat. Hope he enjoys retirement.
