Learning from other sports to improve mentality and atmosphere

I was trying to find the right thread for this but perhaps it deserves its own and might bring about some food for thought.

I read an nice little interview with Chris Robshaw ahead of the Autumn Rugby Internationals. Key points which made me think about Spurs:

- 'There are about five or six other genuine leaders in the squad - you need them around you'
- 'As captain, though, you need to put in a big performance just to justify being there'
- 'You want others to see you are leading from the front'
- 'I feel so proud to have the chance to be captain - I can never take that for granted''
-'Singing the national anthem - You just can't describe it. On so many occasions the crowd have got us over the line.'

Of course rugby is different but maybe these are the core ingredients needed for success. I don't think at Spurs the players are inspired enough and feel proud to wear our shirt (asides from the youth and Lloris). We are missing a leader who performs big and inspires the rest of the team. We have no players to genuinely lead around the pitch and support the captain. The atmosphere in the stands doesn't inspire either.

So maybe we can learn from Rugby. We sould pick Lloris to lead as his performances are outstanding. We should sing loud and proud at the start of every game to inspire the players and make them feel proud to wear our shirt. We should look to sign some players over the next few windows who have the leaders mentality and will help inspire the rest of team and the fans.

Thats about it - food for thought if nothing else.

I may get neg repped for it but Kane and Mason are putting the kind of performances in that you would associate with Captain material. How damning is that when compared to the rest of the squad?

We seem to be a haven for highly paid underperforming international players how do not justify the wages or transfer fees when compared to two youth players who frankly are wiping the floor with £100m worth of rags.

One thing I use in my professional life is the theory of marginal gains.. stolen from British Cycling.. there are lots of papers around showing how all the gold medals came about through making lots and lots of small improvements in different areas, rather than going for a big change in one

food for thought
