Not at all, but I still want us to win every game, but where is the glory in finishing 4th in the league, would much prefer lifting silverware at the end of the season

Agree. The chances of us finishing in the top 4 this season are non-existent anyway. Need to go all out on the 3 cups. The game is about glory. Let's go and win something.

The common consensus on SC is that we're not financially powerful enough to compete toe-to-toe over the course of an entire Premier League season with last season's Top 4. And that if we were to spend enough money on transfer fees and wages to make us competitive with them in the league then we would quickly find ourselves 'doing a Leeds'.....

FINE.

....but if that's the case and we don't stand a [realistic] chance at cracking the Top 4 anyway, then why shouldn't we go all out for the cup competitions we're entered into? All of them. Might actually make being a Spurs fan feel like - gasp! - FUN for a change.

I would play the likes of Pritchard, Onomah, Winks & Mason or Bentaleb for this, they will be well up for it and will play without fear. Rather that than a lethargic 1st team plodding around.

We can't afford to rest 1st team players for the Palace game with the start we have made, even if we beat Everton & Sunderland, a loss at Palace would really heap on the pressure and get the crowd & media on our backs.

Arsenal have Chelsea (a) the game before, which is after their 1st CL group game, so I doubt they will play their 1st team anyway and if they do, they won't be firing on all cylinders.

Hope we don't get tempted to put a full team out because it's Arsenal.

4th most important tournament. Needs to be treated that way.

So you think we have a chance to win the league and the Europa or even the FA Cup?

This is our best chance of a trophy he better not a put a weak side out!

And why is it our best chance? Because most teams see it as meaningless.

My point is that nobody tries at this stage of this cup. We shouldn't change our approach just because it's Arsenal...who I can guarantee won't give a shit about the game.

Are you proposing that we play our first team for the Palace & Arsenal game or rest them for the palace game?

Don't get the argument about 4th/EL prioritisation - how about we just beat the scum? It's not acceptable to put a weak team out in this fixture. What are we playing for if not? Beating Arsenal would give us the one thing money can't buy: confidence.

Bollocks mate.

Three games in a week, in September, shouldn't be beyond professional footballers. It's no tougher a week than if (or looking back when) we played in The Champions League. No one takes the group stages of that seriously either, but would you have preferred not to have played Bale in those games, or play him and have those memories.

If you want to rest players, rest them against City.

Sept
13 Sunderland (A) PL
17 Group Match 1 EL
20/21 Palace (H) PL
23/24 ? Arsenal (H) CC1
26/27 ManCity (H) PL
1 Oct Group Match 2 EL
4 Oct Swansea (A) PL

So from playing once a week now we go into a 2 week international break followed by a succession of weekend/mid week/weekend matches, so there will be a need to go into squad rotation to play this sequence of matches - otherwise we burn out later in the season.

So IMO we will not be playing out best 11 players against Arsenal - we'll put out a side with a decent chance of winning but that's not the best 11. .

Why can't we try and win the League Cup, the FA Cup, Europa League and make Champions League? I thought Spurs were the club that thinks it's better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low and that the game is about glory. Or have we given up on that?

We've won two trophies in the last twenty years. Personally I don't think we're in a position where we can pick and choose what trophies we should aim to win.

Hopefully we field a strong team and take this cup seriously.
