The thing is, I'm an optimist rather than a pessimist. Maybe that's my naivety being rather new to the ITK game but the same info passed on to two different ITK can therefore be presented very differently and therefore construed very differently also.

My Italian guy was also certain Conte was coming and so was I so this info can't be taken as gospel. He is a great guy who has always given me top info from the Italian side of the game so I have huge respect for him.

I'll say it again, I honestly feel we will get Martinez over the line and the reasoning for this is my ever-growing confident in Paratici who continues to impress behind the scenes. I'll also give some credit to DL who thus far has kept his distance from the negotiations. Paratici does have his ear and DL so far is listening to what he's saying. That info is not from my Italian source.

Let's just enjoy the ride for the next few weeks. It won't he a rollercoaster as we have previously been used to, Paratici has it all under control, I can promise you that.
Honestly I think everyone was fed differently re managers. It seemed to change on a dime who we were supposed to be close to. As for transfers Paratici has a list and is working through it by the sounds of it. You were good with Romero, so don't sweat it. Only sharing what you're told.

They can get in Frazier Campbell. It’s worked for other sides.

When you remember as if it was yesterday the miserable feeling of swapping Dimitar Berbatov for a Fraizer Campbell loan, and then look him up and see that he's 34 next month (n)

Thank you.

Do you think it would work having him and Son as runners off of Kane, who would drop off slightly as he does for England?

Perhaps it would be a fluid 3, interchanging positions. We had so many occasions where kane wasn't in the box last season when he should be.

must admit it does smell a bit of inter briefing the press to keep their fans calm... if they sign dzeko (pretty much confirmed) and Correa and also so links to Scamacca then I can see it happening, like i mentioned before, this is a serious signing and would make a real statement.

People talking about his guy being the perfect partner for Kane, isn’t that what Son is? Not against this signing and he looks class but would want to be sure that the 3 of them can play to their strengths together before being comfortable breaking our transfer record on him.

Kane will be gone if we sign Martinez IMO. Even if all the noises from the press are saying he would play with Kane. I just can't see us spending £65m on a striker in a pandemic, without Kane leaving.

We've heard it all before with the Bale deal and Villa said the same thing about their signings and Grealish.

Talk of 60 mill for 1 striker of 100 mill for 2. If any is true! DL will look to balance the books. I wonder how he could do that? Maybe the deal is already done and all talk of HK having new partners up front is just to drive up his value without showing our potential wealth. Just an old cynic but dream on, no harm in that!

If we are in for Martinez, Harry is gone, no doubt in my mind.

Could see us calling it a 4-3-3 but in practice it’d be more of a 4-3-1-2

—————Kane —————
Son ——————- Martinez

Gives you the runners presumably creating space for Kane and also Kane playing more of a hybrid playmaker/striker role which he obviously thrives at. I don’t think it’d be truly as rigid as I laid out, but that’d be the purpose. And, if things need switched up it can quickly turn to a 4-4-2 by dropping a midfielder and bringing a player like Bergwijn, Lucas or Gil on.

We are owned by an investment firm. When the market is weak, it’s the best time for the financially sound to pounce and use it to their advantage. The famous Warren Buffett quote….. “Be Fearful When Others Are Greedy and greedy when others are fearful”. That certainly applies here with Levy and why I don’t think a large spend this window necessarily means Kane leaves.

Are people seriously worried about how he fits into our team? He is a quality player - one of the most sought after forward players in the world. Apart from Kane and Son our existing forwards have trouble scoring and creating. Lautaro Martinez last season in Serie A scored 17 goals and contributed 6 assists in 38 appearances, which for a "2nd" striker (not a no.9) are very good numbers. Additionally he is a hard worker and tenacious. He can play off a no. 9, or as a wider forward in a 4-3-3 or if need be up top on his own. You shouldn't worry about how he fits into the team. You should worry about how our team adapts to him. If Kane is sold, we'll need 2 forwards anyway. A No. 9 type and a 2nd forward player like Martinez.

Last week people were wanting Danny Ings before he went to Villa. Lautaro is a class above.

Is this guy really the perfect partner for Kane? I don't know much about him but isn't he the kind of player to drop deep and be a bit of a playmaker like Kane?

We've had several ITKs tell us a couple of things that I believe.

The gist of it is that we have money to spend regardless of Kane. Part of this is the realisation that going the cheap route has ultimately been more costly over the last few years and ironically we can no longer afford to be that cheap and miss CL. The other factor is that the commerical deals are now coming up on the horizon (stadium rights, etc) and even from the deals we've announced (e.g. Getir) we get a decent amount from. As Trix and others have alluded to, given COVID and the situtation in football generally, we're in an extremely strong position to get players that previously would have been out of our reach.

What evidence do you have he can play as a wide-forward? Genuine question as everything i've read suggests he plays in the same spaces as Kane - number 10/CF.

Sounds like this isn't going to happen. Was fun though.

Dzeko would likely be the replacement for Lukaku.

Inter are also being linked with Correa from Lazio who would arguably be a more typical replacement for Martinez. If he is to leave.

There were banners at their game yesterday calling out the ownership.

It would therefore be safe to assume that the talk of a new contract for Martinez, is the club briefing the italian media to make it look like they did all they could to keep the player so that when they do sell they can say he wanted out (which he does seem to, tbf).
