Our next 3 games compared to last year's results we only got 1 point out of the 3. We lost at Toon and home to Wigan, who are replaced by Cardiff, and drew to Norwich. Time to pick up some points!

1 point up on last year after the Newcastle game.

Plenty of opportunity to improve in the 2 games coming up:
Norwich (A) 1 point
Cardiff / Wigan (H) 0 points

Important to get results in these two, as it's followed by the tough run of Chelsea (A), Arsenal (H), Southampton (H) and Liverpool (A) from which we got 7 points last year

I'd take 7 points from those games.

Level now with where we were last season. Comparing the same games as last year, we went on a run of 7W, 1 D and 3 L, from the 11 games to the end of the season.

Those 22 points are looking tough to get now

Well I can see us going out of Europa after winning 2-1, leaving us just the league to concentrate on and then things change a bit. It's not over yet!

Yes! Time to get the positive face back on:

We have 4 easy games left, 4 medium tough and 3 very tough games left.
Liverpool have 2 easy, 4 medium and 5 tough games left.

That should be in our favour, also;

Liverpool have soton next away. Lose this and They have United away next. I wouldn't wanna go to old trafford After a loss, Even with their current form. Lose this and They have yet another away game at Cardiff. Their confidence could hit rock bottom and we would be breathing down their necks!

It Could Even come to that a draw for us at Anfield would see us as favourites for 4th!

And you know what? There are always bad timed injuries (suarez, sturridge) in bad spells...

Just sayin... And I like your sig! My girlfriend don't.

So all in all, do we have a greater points total than at the same stage last season?

11 games left. Corresponding fixtures last season we did 22 points: Cardiff/Wigan (H) = 0 points, Chelsea (a) = 1 point, Arsenal (h) = 3 points, Southampton (h) = 3 points, Liverpool (a) = 0 points, Sunderland (h) = 3 points, West Brom (a) = 3 points, Fulham (h) = 0 points, Stoke (a) = 3 points, West Ham (a) = 3 points, Aston Villa (h) = 3 points.

Improving on that will be extremely difficult. I am sorry to say I can't see us beating either Chelsea or Arsenal. So assuming we draw or worse in those games, to improve we will probably need to win 8 or 7 and draw 1 of our 'winnable' games and get at least a draw at Liverpool. That would give us at least 23 points.

Will it? Let's assume we lose to Liverpool and draw with Arsenal, as they do seem harder to beat this season. There is no reason why we can't draw with Chelsea and surely we can beat Cardiff and Fulham?

Compared to last season we are level. We drew with Norwich away last year so we dropped the one point advantage we had.

I agree. In fact I still think we have a decent chance of qualifying for the Champions league. After all, all we need do to finish on 75 points is win our 8 winnable games. However, it's having the consistency to go on and win those games that I think we will find difficult. It feels to me rather like betting on an 8 game accumulator, there's usually at least 1 slip up.

Let's not assume we lose to Liverpool as that would mean our season is over. Why can't we beat them, arse and Chelsea? Aim high and so on...

Well in theory we can, though Chelsea statistically it is a tough ask. I'd love us to be the club that allows The Greyo One to go out to dinner with his missus to celebrate his wonderful record etc etc bla bla bla.

My point was assuming we do get minimal points from those games, the rest of the games are more than winnable. We aren't going to win every game, and neither are Liverpool.

We beat Arsenal and Chelsea in the run-in that got us Champions League last time.

If we can get to 72 points again this season I reckon that's pretty good. If four other teams get more than 72 then fair play to them.

Chelsea are in no way unbeatable and surely we will give a better fist of our game with Arsenal. As for 'pool they are due for a bad patch. Win one of these three and draw the other two and we are still in with a shout

so after tonights game we are 1 point down on corresponding fixtures from last season

we got 12 points from the corresponding last 5 fixtures last season - that included a home loss to Fulham

West Brom (a) = 3 points
Fulham (h) = 0 points
Stoke (a) = 3 points
West Ham (a) = 3 points
Aston Villa (h) = 3 points.
