"Winning" League cup semi final on away goals against Chelsea. Only the rules changed before the season and ended up losing on penalties - Spursy.
The only thing about the 'Spursy' comments (because, c'mon...that was a very Spursy thing to do') is that a lot of pundits are acting like we've been doing this loads recently. Not too long ago those very same pundits were preaching about how we were the very opposite of Spursy as we consistently ground out results under Poch.
We've been on an almost upwards trajectory for about 10 years, killed all the old hoodoos, reached a Champions League final, etc etc. Maybe on some level we do still suffer from a certain 'Spursiness' but I think there's a lot of confirmation bias due to the existence of the phrase and other teams have done plenty of more embarrassing things recently. If the word Arsenal worked with a 'y' on the end I bet something similar would have emerged when they got dicked by Bayern 5-0 in the Champions League for the umpteenth time.
Either that or we're cursed.
Having a robust commercial structure in place enabling us to secure a low interest £175M loan to ensure survival through the pandemic.Completed a state of the art stadium that’s was long awaited and supposed to boost revenue, only for a pandemic to hit the entire world and keep audience out.
Spursy.
You are using the word wrong.Having a robust commercial structure in place enabling us to secure a low interest £175M loan to ensure survival through the pandemic.
Spursy
I think a lot of clubs like Villa, Everton, etc resent us all the more as we did what they were trying to do. 10 years ago there wasn't much between the 3 clubs and in the meantime we've finished in the top 4 about 5 times, built an amazing stadium and reached the CL final, while Villa have got relegated and Everton have spent shedloads and only now are starting to show for it.it’s weird I go on the general football section of an Everton forum and the amount of posts that dismiss spurs as legends is quite extraordinary. When i point out that maybe they should look at themselves there having spent nearly £500m to sit mid table and not beat your nearest rivals Liverpool in over 10 Years they get all defensive and somehow supply more reasons why we are bigger legends then they are which again is laughable.

Fans who propagate unfair stereotypes which were created by fans of other clubs to mock us...Completed a state of the art stadium that’s was long awaited and supposed to boost revenue, only for a pandemic to hit the entire world and keep audience out.

You'd have to in fact point to a source for me to believe that "Spursy" originated outside Spurs's fan circles. It's entirely something Spurs fans themselves could come up with. More to the point, fans who refuse to see what's right in front of them.Fans who propagate unfair stereotypes which were created by fans of other clubs to mock us...

If you think abusing your own club with fallacious jibes is a fine thing to do then we have nowhere to go from here. You'd have to in fact point to a source for me to believe that "Spursy" originated outside Spurs's fan circles. Idiotic.
Abusing one's own club should be done in the privacy of one's home, ideally while in Incognito mode.If you think abusing your own club with fallacious jibes is a fine thing to do then we have nowhere to go from here.

Agreed. And laughing at ourselves because ‘oh we get injuries all the time’ or ‘oh were one player away from being complete’ or ‘oh, ThE TOTternHaM wAY’ is one thing, but propagating the myth that snatching defeat from the jaws of victory or failing to get over the line is a predominantly Spurs trait more than any other club or level is just poor, especially when it’s from our own fans.I agree. There has to be a limit.
However, we are probably the best set of fans for laughing at ourselves when things go wrong. The jibes about trophies, Spursy etc, dont bother me in the slightest because we are so good at laughing at ourselves.
But our mentality as fans needs to change as has been said on the previous few pages. It's all well and good being able to laugh at ourselves, but we should also be able to believe we are going to win every game. There should be no fear of any team any more. We are bunch of bastards. And we will be continue to be bastards because bastards win.
Handball rule changes in the following season? Spursy.
Finish 4th but Chelsea win the CL, so we dont qualify? Then the rule changes the next season? Spursy.
This is what Spursy is.
Part of what makes people believe in 'Spursy' is that as fans we keep shifting the goalposts. Yes, we shat ourselves with lasagna-gate; yes, we finished 4th and Chelsea won the Champions League; yes, there was a bullshit handball in the Champions League final; but that was preceded by years and years and years of nothing but mid table mediocrity. Imagine if someone had told you in the 90s and early 00s that we'd be consistent top 4 finishers, challenging for league titles, would make it to the Champions League final, and in a £1bn+ state-of-the-art stadium (and training ground).
As fans, the better our club performs the higher our expectations naturally rise because we want whatever the next big achievement is but along the way you forget how many milestones we've overcome.
Sure, we've not won anything for a while, but look at where we where when ENIC took over and compare that to now - without spending anywhere near the money of Chelsea, City, Man United et al, and where similar-ish clubs like Villa and Everton have gloriously failed - and it doesn't seem so Spursy to me...
Its not so much the level of achievement for me as I make this argument with everyone who says "what have spurs achieved with al this good football, Kane , Son etc" that as long as I can see progress I am happy....that made last season hard to take but as a club as a whole the progress is still there. The spursy thing for me is the things that happen to us that are just purely unlucky and to strange to believe at times. These things are ultimately out of our control and prolong the wait for the shiny pots that ultimately validate that progress and players careers. working on a plan for a stadium for 15 years and pouring in endless funds just to have a pandemic strike within a year of completion just sums it up.
Whilst players and fans can trade off one another for energy and atmosphere I think it's bollocks to suggest it's fan's that are at fault.I genuinely believe the mentality comes more from the fans than anyone else. Think you've hit the nail on the head with your last sentence there. Look at Liverpool fans. They have the most belief out of any club in the world that they are going to win every single game regardless of opposition. It's why they've been able to generate that atmosphere at Anfield even being 3-0 down to a really good Barcelona team.
Its us, the fans, that need to have that belief.

?We know who these posters are, they are those in their early thirties, with dopey beards, corduroy trousers and heavy brogue shoes who drink cask ale and listen to the dusty peddlers.
