The cast list reads like a who’s who of Spurs greats - Steve Perryman, Alan Gilzean, Gary Mabbutt, Phil Beal, Martin Chivers, Pat Jennings, Cliff Jones, Ossie Ardiles, Graham Roberts, Paul Miller, Keith Burkinshaw, Peter Shreeves, Micky Hazard and John Pratt will all be in attendance at the Concert Hall, Gordon Craig Theatre.
There are also a couple of special guests. Jimmy’s nemesis Ron ‘Chopper’ Harris, the notorious Chelsea hard man, will give an opponent’s view while Geoff Hurst, Jimmy’s England team-mate and the hat-trick hero of the 1966 World Cup, is also expected to make an appearance.
Now 75, Jimmy suffered a severe stroke on May 13, 2015 and all profits from this benefit evening will go towards his care and rehabilitation.
Our greatest-ever goalscorer, Jimmy tops our all-time list with 266 goals in 379 appearances between 1961-70. He scored in the 1962 FA Cup Final and 1963 European Cup Winners Cup Final and added a second FA Cup in 1967.
A member of England’s World Cup-winning squad in 1966, Jimmy also scored 44 goals in 57 senior caps for his country, placing him fourth in England’s all-time list.
Steve Perryman began his career as a 16-year-old trainee in July, 1967 and made his debut alongside Jimmy against Sunderland on September 27, 1969.
He went on to play 28 games in that 1969-campaign in what turned out to be Jimmy’s last season at Spurs.

Steve went on to become the club’s all-time record appearance-maker and captain, winning two UEFA Cups, two FA Cups and the League Cup in his 854 matches between 1969-86.
He told us just what an influence being around the likes of Jimmy, Bill Nicholson, Alan Gilzean, Pat Jennings, Mike England and that great team of the early 1970s had on his career.
“Part of turning into a good player is being at a good club where you are being influenced by all sorts of things – your youth coach at 15, 16, the manager, Bill Nicholson, when he spoke to you good or bad and a lot of it is just being surrounded by proper players doing proper things, doing the right things.
“That could be in a training session, sat on the track around the pitch and it’s washing all over you, Jimmy’s impishness in taking a chance or his coolness in taking a chance and what it ends up pointing out to you is that there were many, many great goalscorers in the world, but only one Jimmy Greaves for his style, his balance, his calmness. Wow, what a player.
“He’s an amazing man, we’ve all got our stories, we’ll all show him the respect he deserves. There will be plenty of laughter. I used to help with Jimmy’s theatre tours and I’m not particularly funny, but I felt funny in his presence. That’s the affect he has.
“Jimmy brought a lot of smiles to people’s faces through his sheer brilliance so hopefully, as ex-colleagues, opponents and football people, we’ll raise a bit of money for him to maybe bring a smile to his face and to help his recovery.”
