Did anyone see his interview on Skysports earlier? Where he dismissed a potential move to QPR and stated how much he loves the club and wants to spend the rest of his career with Spurs.

Is this a good thing? Yes he's popped up with a few goals this season but his negatives (lazy, always offside, rarely passes or tracks back, shoots on site 9/10 and can't hold the ball up) vastly outweigh his positives (erm, scores a few and the occasional worldie).

Good for him if he wants to remain with the club but he needs to improve his all-round game and at his age it's highly unlikely that it will happen.

If Levy backs AVB and that's a BIG IF, come next summer Defoe will hopefully be 3rd choice, something he's unlikely to be happy about ... but at the end of the day he's not good enough to lead the line on his own.

What's the general consensus re Defoe? reason I ask and I know it's a social media site (Facebook) but there's copious amounts of comments praising him and by that I mean lots of people seem to think he's awesome and should be our 1st choice striker. Are they mad? Do they watch him week in week out?

We'll see. If in 6 months time he finds himself on the bench behind Ade we'll no doubt see him harping off to the press about how he 'has to play' and will consider offers.

I think we are currently in a process. AVb has a style that he wants to implement but currently doesn't have the players to do it.

We're not going to gel as a team immediately esecially after losing several in fluential players. In the long-term I want Ade upfront but for now a guy scoring goals and making chances for himself is a decent short-term solution.

Not sure I want Defoe long after this season though.

hmmm. yes hes shit isnt he? Really needs to improve, hes having a terrible season and could do so much better.
He's only the third highest scorer in the premier league you numbnuts!!! Ahead of the likes of: Rooney, Tevez, Aguero,Berbatov, Bale, Torres, Poldolski, Crouch!!!! If he was called Julio Ronaldo Messi, you would be creaming your pants all over the place...
Show respect where its due!!! ;)

Unfortunately this is how players are treated by fans when they aren't their preferred player. Like it or not Defoe has shown more loyalty than most players we've had (and watch as people find excuses to justify him not being loyal). Defoe is in the form of his life and should be respected for that and for what he provides the team.

And people get their knickers in a twist when the likes of Berbatov and Modric (and Sol Campbell) show no loyalty at all.

The op obviously has an agenda, it's just oozing of one, you can see it bursting at the seams.

It's not just about goals though is it? We're not saying he's shit, but limited. Can you honestly say you'd have him over Rooney, Tevez, Aguero or Berbatov? Bale is a winger so I have no idea why he's in your list, same with Podolski (well, Wenger's played him wide) and Torres and Crouch are hardly world beaters now are they?

Don't get me wrong, I have great respect for Defoe and the goals he's scored for this club but he isn't in the class of most of the strikers you mentioned.

Can you remind me how many of those strikers you mentioned play for us?

He isn't my favourite and would rather see ade up front, but I must admit he has been better this season than I thought he would be, but has probably played more out of necessity than choice. Fair play to him he has scored a few, but long term I would rather someone else who brings more to the team. That said, wouldn't consider getting rid until the replacement was firmly in place first, don't want a repeat of the vdv situation.

Blimey! Someone gets it. Until we get an Aguero or a Rooney (hah I wish!) we should continue to appreciate him for what he brings us, and deal with any issue of who to play as and when that situation arises. Christ, Man City have 4 excellent strikers, and seem to manage with it.

How many games has he actually played in a partnership with Ade? It isn't very many. I think with Dembele coming back in the best is yet to come. I could be wrong but who can say now with the limited playing time they've had together so far?

10 more goals and Defoe becomes our 5th highest goalscorer....EVER.

I wish people would show the man a bit more respect. Much rather have him than most of the forwards we get linked with!

A player wanting to show loyalty in an age where that personality trait is severely lacking, I'm not complaining.

Good on him. The boy is an out and out goal scorer. Sure he has his downsides but when you need a goal I would rather see him on the pitch. It's a squad game after all.

It's great that he's so happy. Ade will take his place in accordance with the natural order of things, barring further mishaps - he already made it ahead of him in the pecking order once, taking just a couple of games after injury. Till then, the longer Defoe enjoys the blissful conviction he's a world beater, and long term lone frontman, the better for us.

Defoe has really impressed me this season. He has good and bad games but he's a threat, even in the bad games.

Been Very good overall this season

You can do a lot worse than Jermain Defoe upfront. Yeah he has his faults. I'm the first to moan when hes caught offside or doesnt play an easy pass and shoots..but...and I know its a little bit cliche, he does know where the net is. Hes been loyal and I think he genuinely loves playing for spurs. Hes obviously not the answer for the long-term but he's always handy to have in the squad.

goals dont lie. Without them you cant win. Stop worrying about what he doesnt bring to the game, and be thankful that he does bring goals. He's not a link up player, neither was Lineker. We have plenty of players who can do that. At the end of the day he is the third highest scorer in the league. How you can complain about that is just odd IMO.
