I don't think I trust Portuguese reports on a German full-back. Their reports on their own players are already unbelievably inaccurate.

He's a youth sprint and heigh jump champion and though on the short side at 6' he could be a good replacement for Wimmer at cb whilst providing all round two footed versatility. He used to partner Sule the best German cb prospect for most of his youth career. I love the idea of this signing as even as stands we are short at cb as Wimmer wants out, Dier seems to have other desires, and CCV doesn't look ready. Jan and Tony have each had injury issues too. Also it could be the compromise to leave space for CWP without putting all our eggs in his basket

Wouldn't be against this. Also, a lot of stories how Son and Wimmer are close after both coming from Bundesliga. Maybe Toljan would benefit from having these two, and likewise Wimmer may be more inclined to stay.

Not sure why they would mention us though? I think they must know something. It just seems to be quite a weird thing to make up in a Portuguese paper.

We know he fits the type of criteria we're looking at too. Young right back, 1 year left. I'd say there's something in it.

Would seem like the sort of versatile player Poch likes and the sort of contract situation Levy likes. Source seems a bit dodgy though.

I'm very much in favor of this signing...plays RB & LB. Pacy, room to develop (just like danny rose when poch came in), deal ending in 2018 so wont be a huge fee, coming from German league so wages wont be an issue, pedigree from a great national team set up and his most recent gaffer, Nagelsmann is a fantastic coach.

Have you not followed the Adrien Silva stuff? We've never had any interest in him, yet multiple Portuguese outlets managed to construct a whole narrative about us being in talks, then nearly agreeing a deal etc. The inevitable happened a couple of days ago when they said we're no longer interested, when in reality they'd just made up a load of bullshit and it was time to end it.

Is silva any good?

This sort of signing suits our current business model young and reasonably affordable.
....and cheaper than the alternative, Shelfboy! If both he and Pereira were available, I'd hope we'd go all-out to sign the better player, the one Poch wants the most, mate, and not the one that costs the least. But I don't think we will unfortunately mate.

Pereira is the better player mate but costs more the other fellow will cost less but probably is not ready, if your levy who do you buy the answer is easy isn't it mate.

I'd have thought we already have the 'one for the future' spot tied up with KWP. I'd prefer a 'one for the present' signing at this precise moment but we've taken a few gambles in recent windows and got away with it.

Yes I hope KWP is the future but he will not be fully ready yet for the rigours of the EPL imo, but it's not me that sees him on a daily basis nor makes that decision so if poch thinks he is ready then I will support that.

I'm reality, we don't know who Poch see's a better fit. Both have similar traits, athleticism and versatility. Assuming this transfer works in the way we are often told, Poch identifies an area we need to recruit, then the scouting staff suggest a couple or viable/suitable targets, so long as Poch buys off on either Toljan or Pereria, I don't much mind which we get. Pereira appears to have an edge in explosiveness, however, Toljan being that bit bigger may be a better fit for PL football. I'm not knowledgable enough on either to suggest who is the best fit at this point in time, so I'm just going to hope that whichever we buy is fully with Poch's buy in.

I like the fact that both are comfortable left and right, as in theory it allows Davies to cover LCB if required, and also leaves Walker-Peters less direct competition for his development.

As an aside, Roma, who are suggests as rivals in that article, have bought Kolarov.

Wouldnt see a point in this being that he is close in age to KWP.

Yes he has a bit more experience.....because somebody gave him a chance when he was KWP's age.

From what I saw and read about the U21 Euros, Toljan was one of the standout players of the whole tournament (and we supposedly had a lot of scouts out there). Very intelligent and composed for a young player.

A versatile RB/LB would add a lot to the squad IMHO, as we are currently one early injury to Davies away from breaking up Jan and Toby until Rose recovers.

I really hope KWP makes it with us but I also think for the sake of our squad depth signing Toljan or Pereira would be superb.

Well, if he is better and ready to play first team football there is a point. We can't abstain from signing players just because we have a youth player that might be good enough in the future. If that youth player is good enough he has to show it and take the place from a first team player.

And Poch will make that judgement, I dont see it happening personally.

For me it would have to be a player significantly better than KWP to be worth bringing in and blocking his path. And having watched both at the U-20 WC I dont think theres much in it between the two, if anything at all TBH.

Toljan played at the U21 Euros. Still might not be that much difference but I'd say the U21s are a higher level (as U23s can essentially play) and Toljan got into the Team of the Tournament.
