Yup. In hindsight, I'm amazed we had such a clear run at him last summer.

He was Captain of Ajax, clearly a very good defender who's excellent on the ball and a leader too. With the warrior Puyol getting injured more frequently, and Pique having some dips in form, Barca really needed another CB but made no efforts to get one.

They surely realised that if they lost Puyol or Piqué in the business part of the CL it would be a struggle? Mascherano gets away with it in La Liga but against Europes best? No chance! Bartra not good enough yet if ever, Abidal was never going to pay very much and the guy they signed from Kazan was nowhere near good enough.
